Speculation is fine, but it should be labeled as speculation, not as fact.

"Do you not think that it's possible to build another park with the size and scope of Disneyland? Try Florida...."

No park in Florida has as many attractions as Disneyland, yet the one-day ticket price is higher.

"DCA does have value, just not as much as Disneyland, a fact that is not reflected in the ticket price."

Let's say two films are playing at the local cinema. One film is longer with a better script, better acting, and better special effects. Does your local cinema charge more for that movie than the one that is shorter and not quite as good? Would you always see the one with more value, or would you occasionally see the lesser one, just for variety's sake?

"Fine, we won't count the boat. That's still 8 out of 18."

I disagree. I'd count the boat and the farm and the factory tours, so PP would have 9 of 21. And when Hyperion lights back up, 9 out of 22. And that number will fall further as the park grows.

"I meant bulk in the sense of definition 2 a. and I suppose partially in the sense of 3. as far as the "major" part is concerned. At no time did I mean to imply that "bulk" meant "majority"."

Fine. We can agree that you used "bulk" incorrectly, and that you meant it has more rides than it should. I inadvertantly underestimated the number of rides in Paradise Pier; I left Jumping Jellyfish off my list of DCA attractions on another thread. I apologize for that.

I can only think of Soarin'. Thats a great ride!!! Too bad everything else is mildly appealing.

That's a bit presumptuous. Perhaps it's not that DCA's fans "can't see it," but that they simply disagree. I'll let you know what I think when I see it (36 days and counting!)

DL-2000 your condescending tone and rudeness are really quite surprising and unnecessary. After reading your response to my post I am literally sitting here at my computer with my mouth open. Why do you find it necessary to make your point in such a dismissive way?

::First let me start by saying that I really miss Jon’s balanced, articulate observations regarding Disney’s parks.:

    >Articulate? Yes. Balanced? Uhhhh, riiiiigght......<

How to do you justify, or find it acceptable, to single handedly take a shot at our point of view, yet at the same time defend the right for people to express their opinions? This is very perplexing and very contradictory.

It's certainly no wonder to me why Jon left.

    >Why wasn't DCA built to this standard?<

Who else would build a park like DCA? Nobody but Disney.

    >I take it very personally when someone calls my interest in Disneyland "unfair" and "inappropriate".<

You are twisting my words. I never stated that your interest in Disneyland was unfair or inappropriate... I said that disregarding DCA while uplifting Disneyland to such lofty levels was unfair and inappropriate.

    >"Certain features"...hmmmm... Like what? No crowds? A better parade? Newness? "Certain features" of Six Flags are better than Disneyland (ie thrill rides).<

As a matter of fact yes, DCA is currently running two parades that are vastly superior to the one parade running at Disneyland. There are other things too, but those have already discussed into the ground.

    >But what about the parks as a whole?<

I stated in an earlier post that [in my opinion] Disneyland is superior overall to DCA.

    >You seem to dislike people liking Disneyland.<

No I don't. You seem to want to put me in that position. Anyone who has read my posts over the past year or so knows that I enjoy not only Disneyland but all of Disney’s parks. For me to dislike people liking Disneyland would be very silly.

I do get annoyed though when people make Disneyland out to be so much more than it is and at the same time rip DCA to shreds by reducing it to a "carnival in the parking lot". That happens a lot here. I think one of the things that Jim is trying to do in his article is to show that DCA isn’t as horrible as some people suggest.

    >Fact is that the perception of the average guest affects the bottom line and in the end, the bottom line affects the quality of the park.<

And just what is the perception of the average guest? What and how much do you know about DCA's bottom line?

Jon, trying to change people's minds when their minds are made up, whether they are right or wrong, is like beating your head against a brick wall. Don't let it get to you, and just post to the topics where you'll find intelligent debate...there are many here.

<<And now, please leave me out of this junk. I appreciate the support, but I don't need the mindless bashers to be given any more fodder. I don't want any part of them, including being a part of their commentary, which of course is going to only be more harshly negative and illogical statements, exactly as it was above. When someone can't back up their arguments with facts, they start insulting each other. That's human nature. Again, I hope you'll stay on the boards, but just avoid those brick walls!
