All I've heard is that Virginia has a mechanism that is rather automatic when the vote is this close. Any number of commentators are speculating that Republicans will use this mechanism if the vote remains this close, just as there was speculation earlier this evening that the Democrats would use it when Webb was behind by a whisker.

Of course, some here are more finely tuned to the tea leaves than I am, so I may be misreading the minds of the various personalities involved.

Or wait . . . is it the other way around? I forget.

Yes, we have that in Minnesota. If the difference in an election is less than a certain number of votes (I don't know that number) there is an automatic recount. That could very well be what we end up with here.

That would be Steve Poizner. I have no idea what Bustamante will do next, but I hope it doesn't involve comfort eating.

I caller her… that helped a lot. She said Carter had taken the presidential election and it looked like Rudy Perpich was going to be Minnesota governor.

Chris Matthews on MSNBC is even stunned at how the Republicans have been taken to the woodshed (to use a popular phrase here).

I'm glad Arnold won, but also glad Democrats are picking up other Governorships. I'm sick that Harold Ford lost in Tennessee. What a disgusting campaign the GOP waged there, and it's a shame it paid off.
