Looks like Disney is getting ready to pave some new roads. Disney is already put in new pylons for some of the Tree House DVCs. Of course construction continues on the Bay Lake Towers.

In my opinion as long as DVC construction continues at this pace, any new rides/ attractions are a secondary priority. I'm not saying there won't be any new rides, I'm just saying its obvious what Disney's priority was been for a while now.

LED gives off that eerie green and blue lighting. The treasure scene in Pirates looks like its all done with LED lights. In EPCOT the floodlights pointing up at the entrance to Spaceship Earth are all LED lights. The only exception are the white fluorescent lights highlighting the bushes to Spaceship Earth. My party noticed that much of the lights in Downtown Disney both floods and lights lighting the walkways at ground and waist level are now all LED.

I don't believe it is a matter of Disney doing it right! It is a matter of the business men, with the super high paychecks, deciding how they may manipulate the company to make more money, for their paychecks, regardless of good or bad decisions.

I never thought the LEGACY graveyard markers (in front of SpaceShip Earth) at EPCOTcentre was ever a good idea, but it is pulling in a lot of money for Disney.

UNFORTUNATELY, the cares or wants of the Guests have long been cast to the way side in the search for more money. I have attended Disney for 40 years and it has been appearant what is happening, including the declining maintenance (which caused the loss of 20,000 Leagues subs maint costs to soar).

Ever walk down Main Street USA and see tons of lights burnt out along the roof lines of the buildings, or lights burnt out on the Contemporary, rusted structures, paint peeling, I saw this 12 years ago and it still goes on today only worse. I saw the paint peeling on the monorails during a recent visit. Nemo is not the only victim, the entire park is in trouble.

Disney is doing it right as far as trying to bring in the dollars but they are treating the guest as cattle.

But to attract the cattle to the parks, you must spend money there. Most of the cattle will attend the parks, not the DVC's, which is where the money is now.

Open your eyes and see what there is to see, you may be surprised!

    ><><>< But hey, want new.... there is a lot of DVC construction going on. From what I can see from the road, all the Tree Houses are gone along with roads and other facilities.><><><><><

DVC is the newest of the money making ideas that DISNEY Leaders have decided to persue as their cashcow.

WIth the high costs of fuel, job losses around the country and potential for more factory closings, I am not sure these guys have their hats on straight. I think the money would be better spent to fix what needs fixing, keep the ticket prices down and slow down the DVC plan.

But if you have noticed, DVC is being constructed all over the property. So much for maintenance or new attractions, and look for higher ticket prices. Food prices have gone up as well, in the form of same price, smaller portions. LOOK and you shall see.

    ><><>< Probably the biggest improvement I have seen in the parks so far is the poliferation of using LED lighting in many places. ><><><><

The lighting changeover began 10 years ago, mostly to newer construction. I saw it first in Disney Village (now Downtown Disney) in the Guest Services office. They told us Disney was changing the lighing over to Halogen, at that time, to save MONEY (sound familiar).

The lighting changes are a mix of Halogen and Led now as LED has advantages in certain applications and Halogen covers where LED is not applicable.

The combination is interesting and I have been watching with interest in order to use this technology at home.
Be cautious with Halogen, the bulbs get really hot and can start a fire under the right circumstances, but they do put out a lot of light.

I have not had a single trip thru in 3 years where all the features worked as they are supposed to. Either the western scene is down - or the gangster scene. One headlight is always out on the car - and half the time the car does not move.

We won't even get into the bubble scene platform not turning - and last time through the soundtrack for the Wizard of Oz was off a good 10 seconds from the witch animatronics

This is an attraction to be proud of - please return it to the glory it deserves

Oh, and return the darn conch fritters to Olivia's in OKW. Hello, it's supposed to be Key West - I'll bet they haven't removed conch from their menu !

ps.I'd also like my honey butter back @ LTT and WCC

pss. Return the scotch eggs to R&C in EPCOT

And Fantasmic down to 2 shows per week ! Now 1 a day instead of sometimes 2 I could have been convinced on - but twice a week - that will ensure 5 half empty days at the park --

I'm not being anything here, KT.

I started the thread with the simple goal of cataloging all the little things (and bigger ones) that Disney's 'leadership' team was doing to make cuts under the guise of the economic crisis (which they steadfastly say hasn't affected the parks, so one again would question the need for cutbacks and the motives).

    That's it.

What is Disney doing? What have people noticed as a money-saving, quality-cutting, WalMarting move?

<<With all due respect Spirit, I know your a nice guy and I agree with you most of the time on most discussions. But, I really don't think the sky is falling.>>

How do you know I am a nice guy? I might be a terrible person ... I'm not, but how do you know?

And I don't think the sky is falling at WDW. I think it's already fallen on this country and every day I see that reinforced in countless little (and huge ... like the Wall Street BS) ways.

<<However, since I'm at WDW right now I have noticed a few things. First off the outside facade to the Hall of Presidents is dirty and in need of some new paint. Walking between Casey's and the Crystal Palace my party noticed leaves on the ground which surprised us as the area should have been blown clean that early in the day.>>

Those sound like little things to me ... HoP is actually closing Nov. 1st so we never (THANK GOD for those who believe) have to listen to George Bush in a Disney attraction again. I am sure they'll be doing some painting and TLC then.

<<Today we noticed one of the wooden screens over the lighting in the big queing room ( the one showing the movie clips ) was bent. The was dings, scratches and torn off paint in the queing area for Toy Story. So general matience is down>>

That sounds like more of the same, really.

The cutbacks I'm talking about would be bigger and noticable to more folks. Like raising the prices at Chef Mickey's while putting cheaper/lower quality items on the buffet (which I hear is happening).

Yeah ... it isn't just WDW that has been and is being WalMarted ... it's our entire nation and (real ... i.e. not crap politicians throw out as talking points) values that have been.

Why? Because some mid-level exec with a PowerPoint explained that with his/her make believe numbers Disney would spend more by operating the location in terms of labor, electricty etc ... then it would bring in by having that food option open to guests.

Certainly not exceeding guest expectations, is it?

Alas that is the way it is all over the country.
They charge more to enter the parks and cut down on the entertainment.
Maybe if we skipped a few vacations there, Disney might get the message and treat the guests as if they were really guests instead of paying customers who do not need a bang for their buck

Its ok for that to be the norm all over the country. We, as Disney Guests, Already pay the top buck so we should not be facing top prices for less. We pay top buck to get in and top buck for the food and service. As I mentioned before, we are just Cattle - MOOOOoooooo

This is why I prefer DLR. If Disney doesn't meet my expectations (for meals) there are tons of very nice places on Harbor and Katella that are very eager for my business.

I do not think you understand the the comment. the portions are less than half of what they used to be but the same price as the old full amount.

Ok lets put it this way, Say you buy a Mickey Mouse Ice Cream, but you have to pay DOUBLE price for it. Thats what is being said.
