Besides, when you really think about it, isn't a body hanging overhead kind of gruesome also? I think most kids who would be bothered by this just wouldn't like to go on the ride in general. I refused to go on when I was 6, because I was a wuss, and there was no axe-wielding bride then!

They also swapped out the original bride for an updated version with a different look at the same time. But of course there was no Internet message board back then for people to get all hysterical about. In 1995 people just sort of went "Hey, they kind of changed this part, didn't they?" as they rode through. There was no ranting and hysterics to be had back then. Simpler times.

Has anyone considered what I think to be the most likely outcome: that they will add the mentioned story elements without it being in a gruesome or horror-centric manner? Consider how many elements of the original Mansion could be described in ways that could be mis-interpreted by someone that had never seen it in person as being gruesome and horror-based. There's a whole lot of death in the Mansion, yet it's handled in a humorous and almost upbeat fashion. I have no reason to suspect that the rumored changes won't be done in the same manner.

Notice the older lady sitting on the tombstone, which has a bust of the deceased with an axe in the head.

It's 99.9 percent identical to the show I first saw at age eight. I'll walk in the doors next weekend when I'm there and see that Nixon-era presentation yet again. It's a great, almost timeless presentation, but it's been milked dry. A coherent storyline and modern effects aren't just overdue, they're necessary.
