They sort of did change the castle for now, for the 50th. It's still the same design, just altered a bit. Like Pirates. Yes, it would be different if they were to rebuild the castle as something totally different, but that's not what they did to Pirates. They did not bulldoze Pirates to put a Jack Sparrow animatronic in it's place. They did not destroy Pirates to build something like a Lilo and Stitch Ride or something. They kept the same ride and altered it a bit. Okay, so a couple animatronics look out of place. Whenever a new ride or an addition to an old ride opens, it feels out of place. Like, Jack Skellington in the Haunted Mansion. Speaking of which, Iheard they made a few drastic additions to the Haunted Mansion as well. And last time I rode Jungle Cruise, there were some change there too. Rides are always going to change. It's what Walt wanted - new technology, and changes. If we would have kept disneyland the way Walt left it, no one would g there any more. They keep adding stuff....like TownTown. TownTown feels out of place, and it wasn't one of Walt's original creations, but we still have it and have gotten used to it. Anyway, I'm sort of rambling.

A whole new complete ride called the "Curse of the Black Pearl" or whatever would have been the right way to go.

Disney can buy land anywhere in the world so they could have built a new ride somewhere else if they wanted to.

What is the "story" of the original ride?

    >>Disney can buy land anywhere in the world so they could have built a new ride somewhere else if they wanted to.<<
But the vast majority of us are happy that these enhancements are being done right here in Walt's original magic kingdom. After all, Walt always said that Disneyland would never be complete, etc. etc.

Disney is not merely plussing the ride as people are saying. The ride will not remain intact. People say it's the same ride and that they only added Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones and Barbossa, relax!

    Yeah right!

Each year they will add more movie characters and remove some of the original pirate characters.

People will forget the original ride and when it is totally taken over by Jack Sparrow and friends some people will ask, "Walt Disney designed a Pirate ride in the 60's without Jack Sparrow? I wonder what that ride was like?"

I think in time the original POTC will be forgotten and what some people feared will come true. We will only have the Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp ride left!

Iger is just like Eisner. Profits before customers!

The ride hasn't been the original since before you were born.

Oh, and don't forget the fiber optic sign on the island.

Except for the new treasure map and the five brand-new effects, that attraction hasn't been as close to the original in ages.

As for the changes that have happened in the last decade or so, the way it was before I don't even always remember. The fiber opic sign? Yes, I know it wasn't always there, but I honestly don't remember what that little area looked like without it.

Anyone who's been on the new ride happen to notice whether or not Kitty got her boo-boo fixed?

Well, sure, there were attractions that had been based on films that the studio made. However, unlike adding Jack Sparrow to POTC, they were merely inspired by part of the film. I have never seen Third Man on the Mountain, yet I am able to fully understand and appreciate the Matterhorn Bobsleds. I doubt that seeing the movie would really add anything that I had missed before. Walt knew that, as hard as they might try, the best way to tell a story in an attraction is to simply set the mood and let people's imaginations take over. Unlike anything I have seen recently (definately since Indy, probably before that), each person was able to come up with their own version of what happened. They would all be similar, but each would vary slightly to fit the experience. I believe that is what made Disneyland so special, its ability to let people discover things for themselves. Watching something on TV is nice, learning about in a class room is neat, but making up your own way of doing it is something that only you can do, making the park more specialized than any interactive ride could ever hope for.
