    A few other observations. I caught a little bit of Women's Basketball between Russia and Australia. The Russian team, my word they are breeding some very good looking women over there. They are a long way form the babushka wearing ladies of year's past.

    Usain "Lighting" Bolt would have ran maybe a 9.49 instead of a 9.69 had he not started high steping ala Deion Sanders the last 15 meters.

    As you watch some of these events especially track and field, remember that a lot of these athletes have trained here in the US. Either individually or by attending college.

    Heard he had some issues last year with violence against his girlfriend, Miss USA 2003.

    I still love hearing his boxing commentary, though.

    There is no doubt that the pool is a fast pool. They built it to all the right specs to make it so. It has the perfect depth, it has a buffer lane on each side so no one has the side of the pool, and on all sides there are grates that help to reduce waves. That being said I think a few people would notice if it were a meter short.

    Not knowing anything about the physics of competitive swimming, why would it be a disadvantage to be up against the side?

    Is there a particular spot which is preferrable in terms of racing position (center, or off center or whatever?).

    Do swimmers swim faster if noone else is in the water?

    If so, I wonder if the results would be a lot different if people swam their race one at a time...

    Not that I am a expert, but I do know that the #4 center lane is the prefered lane. In that level of competition it is all about gliding through the water with least resistance. This mostly comes from waves caused by the churning of the water. When your in the middle you get the least amount of waves and so it becomes the prefered spot.

    Congrats to the Kenyan that just won the men's marathon. The Kenyan men ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS win the 10K Crescent City Classic here, so I almost feel like they're honorary New Orleanians. It was nice to see them claim their first every gold medal in the marathon.

    How cool must it be to run into that stadium and hear almost 100,000 people cheering for you? It brought tears to my eyes to watch it.
