But instead of taking a profesional route and remaining focused on the daily negotiations, Ada Briceno and her small group of goons keeps blabbing to anyone who will listen about how negotiations went that day and keeps planning rowdier and louder protests outside the Disney owned hotels.

You can only picket once you have gone on strike, and no such thing is even close to happening. This is simply how Ada Briceno handles her Union business during a negotiation process. And it's really a very tacky, unprofesional and unproductive way to go about it.

To it's credit, Disney has not said anything publicly about the negotiations, which is how that process is supposed to work while it is ongoing.

And yes, most Disney Unions are far more profesional and far more mature than UniteHERE 681 and the Ada Briceno groupies are. The Attractions Shop Steward that was blabbing about the upcoming 2:00 AM protests is really just an idiot. He is always railing against "management" and he has a very, very small group of slimeball, underperforming CM's who are attracted to his message and overall vibe. He's funny to listen to, because it's amazing that a grown man in his 40's could be that stupid and out of touch. Plus, he blabs information he really shouldn't, and now we can all talk about it here! ;-)

I believe Tink's point is that Disneyland has other legal avenues to stop the demonstrations besides caving to union demands, and are deliberately refusing to take advantage of those avenues.

I am surprised the company has not dealt with this in negociations.

I believe that the company is in a good legal position to have this stopped, now while it is true that picketing by the bargining unit only takes place when proper notice has been given,

an imformation picket line can be put up at any time by outside unions who support their cause, people can choose to cross the line or choose not too...

very clearly though...if this Ada person is directly involved in this fracas then the Union can be charged with bargining in Bad Faith , also if you are that far away, after this length of time that has passed ,

a strike vote should be taken, if the company knows that the membership can walk at any time , they will become more serious, the employees will have a much different perspective on things,

for ie... we may be with out work, ect...or if the company is fed up with them all, they can lock them out..

it seems to me though that one of the more direct ways to deal with this contract dispute is to ask for mediation, then see what happens, the company can ask for a cooling off period where no action by the union will be allowed in the manner it has been to date...

.I am sure that THE COMPANY can pull what ever strings need to be pulled
    to silence this crowd...

I agree people on holidays should not be inconvienced in this manner by ethier side, both sides have a responsibility to protect the people who fund their pay cheques.
We all understand that we need proper incomes, job conditions, safety issues ect ect ect... to feed our families, to establish a comfortable life stlye.

The company wannts that for them selves the uniuons do as well, how ever there are always a few who live for disruption know matter what..

.if the union members feel that their negociation committee is out side the realm of their negociations the membership can have them replaced, has anyone talked to other unions they simply would not tolerate abusive callous behaviour up here, in fact some make it a point to distance these wildcat radical
    unions, from there own..

If it is this Bad...Disneyland should nip it in the Bud as I speak....hopefully they will.

    for union members,
...next Annual General Meeting get rid of this
person Ada...by petioning delegates to vote out this president if that is what the position is, vote in some one who will stand up for the rights and wages of all in a fair and responsible manner with dignity and respect not in a manner of self interest only..

have a great day...hope everything cools soon, I love Disney...I would hope that they would love us all back in the same way..

get on with business, I don't think for one moment that Disney will cave into anyone, this is a powerful company, they could smitten this dispute in a heart beat....while not even giving a glimpse of caving in....

Guests should voice their opinions to the door of the hotel president if they feel that they have been inconvienced...if enough have the company will deal with this swiftly..

They have a reputation at stake here,
I wouldn't tolerate mine been tarnished , and I am a well respected Union member up in these parts...
bye for now...bye the time you have read this , maybe this dispute will be over ha ha ha ha...

    take care....

We have a winner in the illogial thinking award.

I work at a hotel, though not in LA or associated with Disney. I would have irate guests on the phone demanding that I call the police to shut them up, or they would be calling themselves. And if I know angry guests, throwing things at them.

Um, not exactly what I was thinking. If what Westsider is telling us the union is completely out of line in this case. I see no reason to penalize the hotels for this kind of behavior. The unions ought to instruct their members to behave in a more civilized manner. Making a ruckus in the early hours of the morning is not going cause me to have an ounce of sympathy for them or the workers. Sorry.

These two things are probably related. Disneyland only surveys happy people. To prove to the guys in Burbank what a great job they're doing.

I certainly don't disagree with with your point, but on the other hand I can't be held accountable for know whether or not the employees of every business I cater to pays its employees a reasonable salary based on local standards. In this case how can I know who is right, and why should I care? I just want to get some sleep before a long day at Disneyland. The need to keep their rants at the bargaining table and leave innocent visitors alone.

You're still missing the point. Yes, the union is way out of line, but Disneyland is also LETTING them protest in that manner.

They have the legal means to stop them. They can get an injunction against the demonstrations. They can have the police haul them off to jail. But they've chosen not to do these things, preferring instead to let the guests suffer and let the blame fall where it may.

It may be good strategy from a negotiations standpoint, but not too bright when job number one is supposed to be the comfort of your paying customers.

This whole thing is utter nonsense...it is quite apparent to me that as long as the company has their place full and occupied they could care less whether the guests are inconvienced or not....on the other side as long as this is the case the union is seeking to disrupt the hotel in order to force the guests to complain about the goings on,

I tell you the truth only a few know or care about the struggles in place they are on holiday , they are trying to get away from their own hustles and bustles of their own world, not wanting to feel the stress's of this place but rather the happiness of this place...

.I would not stay at this hotel until the matters are resolved concerning the ruckus's, both sides should be admonshished for their behaviours...this is utter nonsense...

enough of who is right and who is wrong,
get the darn thing done...apparently most of you don't get it, no wonder this has gone on so long, even on this site most of you just don't get it,

you have to be in the middle to see both sides, in my opinion both sides don't deserve anything, the guests deserve a better contract, a better rate for roooms, a better stay, better treatment, free stays, things that have costs given better breaks for,ie character breakfasts ect....

. the other two sides don't deserve anything for the abuses that they have both allowed to take place...

.enough is enough get on with..or get out of it....guests should be demanding room cost deductions for any inconviences ....

..this is such a joke.....most of what i have said has fallen on deaf ears...only a few smart ones have picked up on it...it is not about you or me...

.it is about us...all....if people can't get along in this world over such silly things try being a woman in pakistan and burned to death at 16 because you looked at another man..

.and we worry bout such stupid little things , so get on with it, the workers need a few things the company needs a few things, get on with it..

.grow up and be the respectful adults your moms an dads intended you to be not the spoiled brats that you are being...enough of this talk...already.....

That actually sounds like a smart strategy.

Not a "cool" strategy, to be sure, but definitely smart. If Disney has to pay out, they will be more likely to listen.

    Sad, but true.

It's all about hitting them where it hurts (in the wallet, or "coffers", as it were).

Okay, I understand the "sticking it to the management" part (that is part and parcel of what unions DO, isn't it?), but what political statements from the far left are you talking about here?

    I hear you.

The little things are so surreal when the bigger picture looms so large (and largely ignored).

But, everyone has their own special circumstances, and their own difficulties, I'd say.

It's hard to distinguish what is important from what is not.

Welcome to Amurca, where there are only good guys and bad guys, you're either for us or against us, and all unions are either our saviors or the death of civilization as we know it. Stay the course. ;-)
