Noted the changed hours from a CM. Grabbed a Times Guide, went to city hall.

Got the speil about weather - it did not rain all night from 4:30pm on BTW. Told the CM about the Times Guides, got a response that they would not pull them despite the incorrect info.

Popped out my Verizon phone, showed them the wrong hours on the application, was assured it would be taken care of.

It was not, i checked a few times through the rest of the night - logging onto it after the park had closed still had attractions listed as open until the original closing times.

Today, same problem - app lists the original park hours.

No one there is attempting to fix the problem of getting the info to guests. They are not even making an honest effort.

How often did these mid-day decisions to close the parks early occur in the past? I'm talking about days like today, with no inclement weather, but TDA decides to roll back the closing by a few hours in the afternoon.

I haven't had an AP for quite a while, so I can't tell you how often this has happened in the past few years. I know early closings of this nature (no bad weather) rarely happened in the nineties, if at all.

I'm wondering if these are decisions being made by the new sheriff in town, George "Special K" Kalogridis. Seems way too coincidental that he becomes the new Prez last fall, and these early closings begin shortly after in 2010.

The above post is partly in regard to this quote.... But still MANY folks get BOTH Lincoln's BD and President's Day (the former Wahington's BD). Some folks only get the later. But my wife, who works for the County of Orange gets a 4 day weekend (both the 12th and 15th as holidays). Some schools decided two 3 day weekends was better than one 4 day weekend to keep up with the actual "teaching" schedule.

We listened - you just didn't make a good observation. Although hours vary seasonally, and it is indeed the off season, what is happening this year is different than in years past: they are changing same-day operating hours after the park has opened and after most tickets for the day have been sold. This is completely different than what's happened in prior years, where they schedule reduced hours well in advance because it's off-season.

We arrived at the parks at 11:00 AM and hadn't seen a drop of rain - in fact, when they made the announcement (we heard it at about 3:00 PM), the sun was out, and there was hardly any clouds around. There was a brief 5 minute shower at 5:15 - that was it. It was VERY obvious that the parks were closing because attendance was WAY down. Most rides were walk-ons - the longest wait at DL was Nemo - 20 minutes. I'd rather they'd at least be honest and say they're closing the parks due to decreased attendance - that makes more sense to me; much more so than to blame it on inclement weather that was non-existant. BTW, our family had a GREAT day at the resort. We'd like to thank the weather service for scaring people into thinking it was actually going to rain today!

In all seriousness, while Superdry's analyses seems very plausible to me, it's doubtful the information is being relayed in a positive way to the paying customer. Meaning, the PA isn't saying "Since we're 20,000 guests short today, you actually get to ride more stuff and we're closing early."

To someone coming from a distance, hearing the park is closing due to inclement weather on a nice day will seem like a bait and switch, even if it isn't.

The whole thing is run out of TDA by someone in a cubicle working Monday-Friday 8 to 4:30 (but TDA is notorious for cutting out early on Friday afternoon, so that explains the lack of updating on a Friday after 3:00). So if park hours are changed close to that guys off time, or on a weekend when he isn't there, the Verizon App just rolls along with the wrong info. The Leads and the kids in plaid at City Hall have no ability to change that kind of information, and they don't even know how to begin doing that. I only know what I know because I have a buddy who got in trouble for not changing his attracion wait time for a few days in a row on weekdays, when the guy in the cubicle noticed it.

But on a weekend, on holidays, or after normal business hours, no one is monitoring the system and no one on property has the ability to change anything but the wait time for the Teacups. Except for the hourly wait time updates, it's entirely run out of TDA by a cubicle dweller working comfortable hours.

And these early closings at Disneyland are really hurting the CM's who aren't full time. They are getting their shifts cut or outright cancelled, and there are so few shifts this winter anyway without Fantasmic!. The FT's and higher seniority CM's are okay, but I was talking to a couple CM's last night who had their 7 hour shifts turned into 4 hour shifts, or had their 4 hour shifts simply cancelled.

I've been at Disneyland for years now, and I never remember a winter like this where we've had multiple early closings at both parks week after week. And it's not even raining tonight! It's clear and starry in Anaheim right now.

To Mousemerf, I have a weekly column, and yes I know Al Lutz... but he knows the general story, as so do I....

There is ALWAYS a time and place to deal with the issues, but I think you have a decent chance for reading more about this issue later this week online.

The issue being discussed that day, btw, was that Living with the Land was being listed as open and offering FP despite being closed for refurb.

As a guest service issue, it's something they've known about for a very long time and done nothing to correct. The Verizon app being incorrect is just the latest symptom.

More incorrect information for guests and zero attempts to correct it.
