She still fits the 'friend of nature' role, but in a much different way than any other version I've seen before. I'm not sure how that all ties into their later story (which appeared to be the traditional one in the first episode), so it will be interesting to see how it progresses. It also seems worth noting that John Doe and Emma were both discovered abandoned on the side of the road. I suspect that was an intentional parallel. Minor spoiler alert: I believe that the bride-to-be/missing wife is Cinderella. At D23, the writers mentioned that she would be in the series fairly soon. They gave the episode number, which was either 3 or 4, and it seems like it was probably her. If so, it's another interesting twist on the backstory to have both of them going after the same prince.

Our DIL who was at our house couldn't wait and watched it WITH COMMERCIALS in another room LOL!

The way they've turned Snow White into a very different sort of character from even what the Brother's Grimm intended bothers me. Maybe if they hadn't borrowed ideas from the fairy tales and just came up with a whole new set of characters that used to live in the past and were now transported to the future by an original sorceress that had nothing to do with any of the fairy tales we all know, it would have been better. At this point Snow White is so different from the original fairy tale that I don't even think of her as being Snow White anymore. She's just some other girl from a magical medieval time period who happens to be named Snow White.

In the Disney version of Cinderella the prince didn't have a name. Dave Smith--the official Disney archivist--was the one who officially Christened Cinderella's Prince as being 'Charming'. So that means Snow White's Prince is nameless. I'm not sure which fairy tale the 'original' Prince Charming comes from. But if this new series ever gets around to dealing with the story of Sleeping Beauty they'll refer to THAT prince as Phillip--just to keep things less confusing.

The reason he's a cricket is kind of a stretch, but I really like the idea that he turned into a concience to make up for what he had done earlier in his life. I also thought that the Gepetto backstory was interesting, and both played into what we already know of them very well. The collapsed mine was also interesting. I can't help but make the connection between the old mine and the dwarves, but I'm not sure if that was intentional. I'm not sure if we saw real emotion out of Regina or not, but either way, she's really a character that I love to hate. It was great seeing Mr Hopper stand up to her. It's also strange seeing Emma work for Regina (somewhere in the heirarchy), but I like the potential it has. It will be particularly interesting to see what happens after the next 'council meeting'.

I don't really know his actual origins, but I always associated King Midas with mythology more than fairy tales. His real-world counter part (what's his name?) had an interesting story too. As soon as I saw the windmill in the pawn shop, my first thought was "Nooooooo!" Hopefully everything isn't set in stone yet. And among the trinkets in the pawn shop, I'm pretty sure I saw Aladdin's lamp. I'm sure there were probably some other things hidden in there, but nothing that I could make out/recognize. The tea set seemed to be important, but I can't figure out why (I think Mrs Potts/Chip are only important in the Disney version of BATB). Still no idea who the sherriff is.

His usefulness at introducing info to Emma seems to be running out of steam. And if something were to happen to him that was suspicious, that would motivate Emma to stay and solve the mystery. The actor's name is Robert Carlyle. He was a regular in 'Stargate: Universe' and played a Bond villain in "The World Is Not Enough"
