We always look back at our "first time" in various events as something of a rite of passage. So Disney making a terrific attraction that some kids can't ride because of height - it seems like a lot of pointless griping. Sort of like saying that DCA is an utter mess and an abject failure. Hey, wait...
Originally Posted By jonvn "Lots of little kids get to ride Splash Mountain." So...what? I know adults who won't ride it. And lots of kids won't, too. It has nothing to do with height. Even for those adults who do ride it, it's content is kiddie. So you have this wild flume track surrounded by cutesy stuff that does not correspond. I realize I'm not saying "DCA SUCKS," so you don't understand this concept, but that's what it is.

They were some gems for sure, but the blunders were glaring and insulting.

I just think that some of TPTB don't fully understand what the name Disney stands for, and what their audience expects from them as the leader in theme parks and animation.
Originally Posted By jonvn "IF they can come up with a great script...sure" The thing is that it's the Lone Ranger, with a very specific storyline. Unless they just call it the Lone Ranger, and do something entirely different, it's going to have a predetermined story. "I expect it to be "kiddie"." Then you have low expectations. They didn't used to do all kiddie things. "Nothing that TWDC has ever created has made me feel patronized or insulted" Me neither. The sort of extreme comments that we hear about some things are flat out ridiculous. Even the things I don't like, such as Splash Mountain, are far and away better than what's produced by other places and lots of people really like it. I don't care for it, so it sucks to be me. Just because I don't like something does that mean it's an abomination before the lord. People need to get over themselves.

Let me be the first to say that I think this is a hoax. Basing an attraction on a non-Disney movie only makes sense when the movie franchise is ENORMOUSLY successful -- like Star Wars or Indiana Jones. There's no way Disney is going to build an e-ticket based on a movie that may flop in the box office.

The first time I walked through DCA I was blown away. Blown away that either the people who built it had never actually been to a Disney park and did the best they could after someone described one over the phone. OR were trying to pass off State Fair quality attractions as a world class vacation destination. Given that these are the same people who DO in fact make world class vacation destinations, they know the difference. They just thought WE didn't.

You were in the meetings and sessions when the Imagineers and management were planning it out? I just don't buy it. That they made some bad decisions, yes. But they intentionally designed crap and thought they could pull one over on their audience? I don't believe that.
