Al Lutz has said repeatedly that the ride is going to be called Midway Mania in DCA, and Toy Story Mania in WDW. But all I've ever seen from official releases is that the title is Toy Story Mania.

What's the real name for DCA? Is Al Lutz right with Midway Mania? He's been right alot in the last few years, but I can't find any official Disney reference that doesn't call the ride just "Toy Story Mania". Only in Al Lutz updates is the DCA version of the ride called Midway Mania.

bean, do you know anything about this name game?

WIth that said the plan is to have the original name for the attraction in DCA. Toy Story Midway Mania.

On the other hand, everything that has come out of the Disneyland Resort Marketing/PR department and signage around DCA has "Toy Story Mania!". For example, the new DCA Guide Maps have "Toy Story Mania!" listed, and they were released the second week of January of 2008.

I think the final decision has not been made, but based on my "gut" feeling, TDA is going to lose out, and "Toy Story Mania!" will be the final name for the attraction.

Not in its current location. It is completely out of place.

The ride is okay. If I were about 15 years old or younger I'd probably love it.

The only other alternative would be to play along with the name until the end of the YOMD celebration and then when DCA gets its new identity changed to what was wanted

Other higher management in WDW and marketing is pushing to have Anaheim remove the midway.

That is why i sort of agree with Darkbeer that they might get their way.

    If that's the case ...
then why is the Buzz lightyear attractions have different names at DL and WDW?

I really don't care what they are all called, since most people refer to them as "Buzz Lightyear" and drop everything else. Personally, I like to call it the drive-by shooting ride. : )

But it's in 3D and puts guest in a zany and creative shooting gallery that is usually different each time you go in. Not to mention it will have different theming for the Halloween and Christmas holidays.

It's a very fun, imagitive plussed D ticket.

Buzz is a nice plussed C ticket.

But if you want to say that because it uses Toy Story characters and there is competitive shooting involved it is like Buzz then so be it.

Everyone can be the judge once it opens.

Perhaps we should start refering to Cars Land as just test track and autopia with talking cars from now on too.

Once they have the basics of the attraction work, I think it would be easy enough to change out the images, while keeping the motions of everything on the screen the same (throwing rings at Christmas Trees instead of bottles for example). The change over would probably be able to be completed in a night or two, which would also be really cool. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it sure would be fun to see.

All they have to do is change out the program which can be done overnight. So when they switch to Christmas season the ride will have an entirely different experience if you come back that next day.

Well isn't that exactly what they are?

No one will be able to firmly say that the two rides are similar enough to be redundant or not until later this year. What is being observed here at the moment is that the new experience SOUNDS too similar to Buzz Lightyear. To the extent that I, for one, question whether a trip to DLR to see it is warranted.
