World events is filled with scarey people. I think we have some rousing discussions that lean towards World Events, here on the WDW forum, that at least seem to ne more civilized.

    >> I'm guessing that Disney has done a great job of killing forums like this both directly (Disney Blog, D23) and indirectly (getting into bed and doing the nasty with anyone who will simply whore their product).

Or maybe everyone is just really bored with Disney ... I could understand that at WDW ... but even the three DL boards here have less traffic then some decomissioned parts of Route 66!

There's definitely something going on because it's affecting all Disney fan sites ... but I live for conspiracy theories! <<

I agree. There is definetly something taking place, and it seems it is much harder to get people fired up about anything in the Disney forums.

I on the other hand believe just the opposite. Why must I be branded a racist if I disagree with the President's policy?

I am a conservative. That normally puts me opposed to policies that are contrary to my political philosophy. When will certain people begin to understand those simple facts of life.

I really couldn't stand George W. Bush because he went so totally against where a conservative stands when it comes to fiscal responsibility. He was just like his Daddy when it came to domestic issues. He was much more interested in foreign policy. That's what made both him, and his father lesser Presidents than they were perceived to be by their base. Now, does that make me a racist? Of coarse not, I'm only a racist if I say the exact thing about a President that happens to be of a different race than myself. Talk about fair!

    >> All this anger of healthcare for people?!?!? <<

This country has become more divided than ever, and it's basicly over an agenda that has been forced upon the American people. Look at all the polls. They tell the story.

You want to hear something scary?

    <a href="http://blog.heritage.org/2010/03/10/video-of-the-week-we-have-to-pass-the-bill-so-you-can-find-out-what-is-in-it/" target="_blank">http://blog.heritage.org/2010/...s-in-it/</a>

Just listen to the Speaker of the House, third in line for the Presidencey, explain that we have to pass a bill into law to find out what's in it. Now that really sounds like the America that so many have made the ultimate sacrafice so the beacon of freedom shines for the rest of the world to see. That's why the anger.

    >> I don't care whether you agree with it, disagree with it, or (like me) think it has flaws but support it because it is so much better than the status quo. <<

You don't even know the full content of this massive bill. How can you be sure it is better than the status quo?

    >> But where were Tea Parties and such vitriol and anger when the prior Prez started a war that has cost us billions (or trillions, who really knows?) and countless lives for NO good reason? <<

The Tea Party was starting to form when W. started his socialized program of taking over, and bailing out corporations. It is growing now because H. has not only continued down the same road, he is also expanding it.

You over simplify the war in Iraq because you are opposed to it. Here are the facts. Iraq was a threat to the supply of oil in a very unstable Middle East. Iraq would attack non-agressive neighbors in order to gain a strong hold over the flow of oil. See the invasion of Kuwait. See the unprovocted attack on Israeli citizens in the hopes of starting a Jihad.

Shall I continue with the constant violation of the peace terms or the denial of allowing UN inspectors to do their job?

If W was such a dunce how did he manage to fool not only our allies, and our Congress into believing that Saddamn Hussein was a threat to the stability of the World, but also the American people. Pretty good for a moron.

    >> Where were they when using 9/11 as a pretense he tore up our Constitution and basic rights? Where were they when the current guy didn't immediately (or yet now) shread the Patriot Act? <<

Good questions. Why hasn't President Obama lead a charge to have the Patriot act removed, and why hasn't it's Constitutionality been tested in the Supream Court?

You really seem to be angry with the Tea Party movement. Why is that? aren't you willing to have folks attempt to buck the status quo or is it just that you are diameticly opposed to their views?

    >> ... I dunno ... just thinking out loud and since no one is here I doubt anyone will join in ... but it sure seems like all the racists and all the 'I don't like that he's not one of us, but I'll keep an open mind' racists are out in force. <<

Are racist really out in force or is it just regular folks with a different point of view. Would you consider me a racist for my differing views?

    >> But what do I know? I hate WDW and have been calling folks 'babykillers' all day! <<

Since you have made several references to this I'm assuming you are making reference to remarks made by people from the Tea Party.

I guess that would go along side what my lovely Congress person as well as some others that have made accusations of the use of the "N" word also.

Personally I haven't heard any tape of it yet, but why would people lie about such horrid things being said. I want everyone to understand that I do not condone such behavior, nor do the vast majority of my party.

Now should we condemn an entire movement or an entire party for the actions of a very few nuts? Would you apply the same treatment to those on the left?

Message boards and fan communities like LP and several others offer something that cannot be obtained from an official corporate blog site. And, the sense of interaction just isn't the same on social networking sites where everyone's fighting to come up with the most clever quip that can fit in 140 characters rather than having an actual discussion, let alone the issue of the threads on message boards being much more persistent, such that they can be used as references by all and introductions by new users. <<

I've never been on facebook or Usenet or any sites like that, but they certainly seem in vogue.

I guess I'm just to lame, and tired to try all these hip new things. Afterall I had been connected to the internet for over 10 years before I ever made my first post on a forum.

I also didn't get my first microwave or remote controlled TV until the mid eighties. I also didn't get my first cell phone until 2003, although my wife has had one forever.

But you have to admit CDD there just doesn't seem to be as much activity as in the past. It seems like people no longer take an interest in posting.

I agree Merf. I also think you have done an excellent job of starting up interesting topics. It just seem folks are reluctant to post or have lost interest in posting.

I think that might be a combination of a couple factors. First off, there's not as much immediate speculation going on as there was a couple years ago. Around the time of DL's 50th, there seemed to be new ideas popping up constantly for what they might do, and why it could and couldn't work. There aren't as many changes going on in the day-to-day stuff, which makes it harder to speculate what will happen.

Also, Disney's been making a bigger deal about what they are doing. With the details out in the press, it's a little harder to speculate what it will be like, since we pretty much know already. It fills in the gaps, but the gaps were a main source of the interesting discussion. There's only so many times we can argue if the Contemporary or the Polynesian is a better hotel. Without Disney leaving a little to the imagination, there's not quite as much to discuss, other than simply stating opinions on what's happening.

Also, I think that MiceChat has taken a big toll from LP. I don't really like MC as much (the overall tone isn't quite as mature, and the avitars and signatures on every post really bug me), but I've read it a couple times. I always see familiar names of old LPers who seem to have made the switch.

There's no doubt that we probably lost a few to Facebook along the way, but I don't think that's the primary reason we've seen a decrease in postings.

But Ferret think about the Fantasyland expansion. We thought we knew what was going to happen. We were even told what was going to happen. Then we come to find out Disney itself doesn't know what's going to happen. At least that's what they said this last time.
That's been made perfectly clear. Merf has even started several related threads about their confusion, wheather real or feigned.
It's like TWDC has developed their own style of openess that in the long run amounts to absolutely nothing.

I really think Disney is attempting to make the forums obsolete with their D23, and their totally controlled blogs. The proverbial straight from the horse's mouth. Only we are slow in picking up on the fact that TWDC isn't exactly Mr. Ed.

There have always been a number of LP folks over on Mice Chat. Heck I'm registered over there also. For some reason I just feel more at home here than other web sites.

I have nothing against any other web sites. I think they are all well run, and have interesting people posting there. I just feel more comfortable here at LP.

I can only deal in facts Socrates. What I do know for sure is that he is no longer a threat to anyone.

We do know that he had used weapons of mass destruction against his own citizens
We do know for a fact that his was a brutal dictorial regime. We do know for a fact he had tried to enrich his stock of WMD. We also know for a fact that he believed in expansionism, and was not timid about invading his neighbors. Who knows where things might have ended up if allowed to go unchecked.

Socrates I have been reading your post long before I ever joined this community. I also know that you are a very inteligent person. Therefore I must assume you are feigning a lack of knowledge of the geopolitical climate that lead up to the first Gulf War.
