You build Tomorrowland and put in "Flight To the Moon," somewhat based upon the tone of the Ward Kimball "Man in Space" series. It is popular but after decades it wanes in popularity. No problem - you can replace it with "Mission to Mars" or Space Mountain or something - the land gets new rides with a new stories that better communicate the theme to new generations of audiences. When the specific references fade, the land still works. Tomorrowland still works, you just bring in new stories. How do you keep Cars Land relevant if it fades? When that specific story fades, the whole land - the whole idea of the land - fades with it. Unlike the Tomorrowland example, here the entire land no longer works. Instead of tearing out one ride and replacing it, you'd have to tear out the whole land.

The rides are great, the aesthetics are stunning, the vibe is fun and upbeat, and the whole thing just comes together as one of those "Only Disney Could Do This" type of environments. But it's based on Pixar, and undiscerning 6 year old boys like it, so I think it's one of those things that many adult Disney fans automatically dismiss. Kind of like some folks hate Starbucks just because they are so successful and globally popular, but then to pretend you are cool you get to make comments about how the Starbucks roast is too bitter and that's why you don't like it. Cars Land is like that. Except Cars Land is better than Starbucks. Cars Land is so good it's like Stumptown Roasters, which is the hipster coffee I claim to drink when I am with painfully hip family from the Pacific Northwest who look down their noses at the tacky clueless housewives in SoCal who still drink Starbucks in public. Cars Land is that good. Long-term, Cars Land will be fine. Even if the story concept wasn't inherently interesting to males from age 2 to 10 for decades to come, the ride and land aesthetics are so appealing they transcend the characters you may or may not know. And there will still be Tow Mater sheet sets for sale at Target 20 years from now. Kind of like Star Wars.

I may rethink not having that accessory, because Cars Land is just that good!
