    They made a display that was deliberately provocative and they got the attention they wanted. Maybe they didn't want as much attention as they got, but they knew what they were doing would offend some people. Or are we to think that they really are that stupid and naive?

    They don't have to. Problem resolved by reasonable people reasoning with reasonable people.

    This is EXACTLY how I'd like to see Congress work.

    And as to the goverment officials talking to them, what else did they expect once the public seized upon this story and started congregating outside the house. It's easier to ask for the display to be removed than try to control hundreds to thousands of people.

    I might have a real problem about the police's role.

    If the police were present solely to keep peace/protection then good---come on over and join the party.

    If the police were present to 'persuade' the 'artist'/activist to remove the figure then we got problems. I don't want any more holes in our Bill of Rights. Lately the Bill of Rights has been used as target practice and enough is enough.

    Well, yes they do. We're getting off the track here somewhat though. While I believe both parties were seeking attention and were successful, they both did it in a rather disgusting and vile way. But the First Amendment exists to protect all forms of expression, not just the ones that we don't find disagreeable. You know, the old slippery slope thing.
