A new shipment of lawn mowers came into the warehouse and in big letters on their boxes were the words: NOT TO BE USED AS A HEDGE TRIMMER. It seems someone did try to pick up a mower and trim his hedge with it, got a few digits "mowed" in the process, sued the mower manufacturer because there wasn't anything in the instructions that said you couldn't use it as a trimmer ... AND WON!

And as a teacher myself, I see way too many instances of parents helping kids NOT take responsibility for their own actions.

I fear that we are becoming a society of victims ... always looking for someone else to blame instead of facing the consequences of our own choices.

    But I LOVED Cars.

Read about a case where a guy sued the city road dept. because one of their workers backed a cement mixer or steam roller or something into his parked car. The catch? He was the city worker in question. Yep, he backed into his own parked car, then sued the city.

I've been thinking about this disgruntled parent. What he ought to do, instead of demanding a change in the film, is use this opportunity to talk about the thing in public. Maybe become a sort of a spokesman. Look for ops to get on talk shows & in local papers, that kind of thing. Not to accuse any movies of causing kids to be stupid, just talking to the public about how devastated he is & how to prevent the same thing in other families.

After all, Cars didn't start the problem, & Cars can't end it.

    WoW, kinda harsh...
I wonder what your sentiment would be if someone you cared for was involved in a tragedy invovling a train/car accident...

    Anyway,
I too think that parental responsibiltity plays an important role; the movie offers a great opportunity to speak with children about consequences. And unfortunately, some people will always make unwise choices; hopefully, they will survive these decisions and learn from them.

Anybody remember the train scene in "Footloose"? OMG!! Lots of bad decisions made by young (and not so young) people in that movie also, but some good outcomes as well.

I liked Footloose! I liked Cars also!
Soundtrack for both movies pretty good as well!!)

My parents-in-law knew a couple where the husband became a lawyer so he could handle all the lawsuits his wife filed.

One time the wife tripped in a parking lot and bruised her knee. Where most people would get upt and sheepishly look around to make sure no one else was looking, she remained sitting there on the ground and told her husband to get the camera.

Ok. I suppose it's a reasonable warning what with choking and all, but come on, I couldn't help but to laugh. When I was a kid we were taught not to run with scissors. Now it's MARSHMALLOWS? ;-)

Of course my sentiment would be filled with grief and rage. But if that someone died while trying to race a train to an intersection, I'd also think how could he be so stupid. And if his dying words were "But it worked so well in that Cars movie that I just had to try it", I'd think civilization as we knew it was over.

I never once had anyone drop an anvil on my head because they saw it in a cartoon....

The man said, "You know how it feels when you stick your tongue into an electrical outlet? Well it feels like that but more intense."

My wife and I looked at each other with a "did he just say what I think he said" look on our face and just cracked up. I'm not sure what I found funnier, the fact that this guy admitted to making out with a wall socket, or the fact that he assumed everyone else has.
