For one thing, up until the last couple of years of his life, his congregants in his (southern) church hard a very hard time voting at all(!); even though ostensibly they had the right to, practically they usually could not.

The AIP was started by Southern Democrats who were upset at Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey for endorsing liberal notions like desegregation. This year, their Presidential candidate is Alan Keyes, who ran for the Republican nomination and lost.
