I took my ex-girlfriend to Disneyland once, about 6 years ago. I took her to an LP meet and it really freaked her out. I never went to another one after that, but would like to next year (with my wife because she understands it).

We took her for 3 full days and had a blast.

I am very fortunate to have *tolerant* relatives. Though none of them go as often as we do; they are usually jealous when we do. All of my kids are fans.
A lady from my church related her first (and only) visit. She said she was so excited to go but her bubble burst when she realized it was "just an amusement park." I really feel sorry for those who do not feel the magic.

Now there's a coincidence... My ex became a big fan of Disneyland on his first visit when he discovered that it's "not just an amusement park."

He was expecting something like Coney Island. :)

My best friend (since school) hates WDW. She went once when it was MK & epcot and hasn't been back. Her explanation: I don't like amusement parks. It's too commercialized.

No magic in it for her.

    *sigh*

But thats ok because I can and will keep Disneyland close to my heart for all of those that can't or wont.

Had an experience like that with my teenage son. We lived in Hawaii for 8 years so he hadn't been since he was 4.
After our three days he said, "Boy, Disneyland was not what I expected; I don't know what I was expecting but that wasn't it! ! ! ! !"
He is a big fan. In fact, when he was stationed at Pendleton he would often talk his buddies into going to Disneyland on their weekends. It was one of the first things he wanted to do when he came home from Iraq.

It also amazes me how many people don't understand FastPass.

Her mom IS adorable and an absolute sweetheart!

My family always gives me "the look" when I tell them we are going to Disneyland yet again. They just can't understand why we have no desire to see or do other things. It's not that other places have nothing to offer but we just don't want to. Some time in the future maybe we will get to WDW or Disneyland Paris and see some of the other things around there. I would certainly look forward to that. But for now our Disneyland is relatively close (6hrs) and we can do it in a couple of days if need be, and we have so many LP fans to visit when we go and friends who work in the parks that we look forward to seeing again. Other vacations to Vegas or some such city might be a lot of fun but are you really going to get that warm glow that you feel all the way to your toes? Walking onto Disney property is like walking home after a long separation. You just exhale a sigh of relief and contentment to be there.

Amen, and very eloquently written. But if you do ever make it to Paris, we will show you the time of your lives!

This sister-in-law and I sit far away from the rest of the pack at family parties and quietly plan our next trip! Granted, we don't always actually go, but we love planning these trips.

They took their kids to WDW in Oct., and my 7 year old nephew and 3 year old niece called me each day with updates! I spent two hours before their trip with my nephew planning on all the pressed pennies he was going to collect. Yes, I downloaded the list of all penny press machines for him and while the rest of the adults talked and laughed, I learned where he could get the stitch pressed penny.
