I have never heard that Pepsi was blamed for the lack of drinking fountains. I have also never heard there were pay toilets in Disneyland. According to Dick Nunis, they were planned, but Walt scuttled them before the place opened.

What I meant, is that in the late 60's/70's, when Pepsi still sponsored the GHR, and Coke still sponsored Coke Corner, I think Coke ALSO sponsored the TL Terrace.

I did check the Disneyland Encyclopedia under "Restrooms," where the claim is made that they were removed starting in 1956. Bear in mind, though, that this book is not an official publication. (In point of fact, it says there are "500 A-to-Z Entries" on the front cover. The final entry in the book is "Yumz." I'm only sayin'...) (And for "Z" the author needed look no further than the middle of Frontierland...!)

Fritos merged with the Lay potato chip company in 1961 to become Frito-Lay. Casa De Fritos at Disneyland was 6 years old by then. It wasn't until 1965, Disneyland's Tencenial year, that Pepsi-Cola entered into merger discussions with the succesful Frito-Lay company. In June, 1965 the merged companies were joined under the new "PepsiCo" banner. Although at Disneyland the brands were still known in Frontierland as simply Fritos as the sponsor of Casa De Fritos and Pepsi-Cola as the sponsor of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon. So until 1965 the two products, Fritos and Pepsi, were totally unrelated at the corporate level. They just happened to come together in a convenient way for their respective Disneyland sponsorships. Similarly, long-term Disneyland sponsors Stouffers and Carnation Ice Cream also were brought under the same corporate umbrella when Nestle' bought them both in the 1970's. Nestle' also owns Haagen-Dazs, whose most succesful retail outlet happens to be in Anaheim's Downtown Disney.

In any case, as the parent of Fritos, Pepsi was served there rather than Coke.
