Obviously, Coke was served at the restaurants in sponsored (Coke Corner and the TL Terrace), but also at other east side eateries without sponsors (the character food stands in FaL, for example).

Then Pepsi was served on the west side, at the GHR obviously, but also at places like the Hungry Bear and Mile Long Bar.

That's how I remember it, anyway...

I know - I thought of that when I typed it!

Because, CC, it is easier for the restaurant/food stand owners to deal with one company, and so an exclusive contract is worked out. When the contract is up, the owner can pit the beverage company they have been using against the others (really, just one other) and see who will give them the better deal in return for that exclusivity.

For the beverage company, they can then say, "We're the official beverage of..."

I have seen some interesting division in the sponsorships at Disney over the years. There was even a time when Polaroid replaced Kodak as the official film. Also, there was a time when Kodak had their own batteries, but even in the Kodak shop at Disneyland, they had to sell Energizer because that was the official battery for Disneyland.

Consolidation, especially in the food industry, has had an effect.

I remember noticing that as a kid. I turned to my mom and exclaimed that "Disneyland has BOTH Coke AND Pepsi!." She replied, "It truely is the happiest place on earth." Somehow this has stuck with me. :)
