Seriously even if you didn't like one or the other because of your political views, you'd like them at that point.

The Phelps cult is as fringe as you can get (it's a little pathetic that Hannity or whoever would even give those types any airtime at all...but I suppose it's a ratings thing).

I see what you mean, but I don't think a lot of hunters go out and hunt cows or chickens, which is really all I eat :) Oh, and fish.

As for the fish tossing...they're dead fish. Before PETA came and made a fuss, who else was thinking that the fish were being "disrespected"?? It's food. It's not like they are playing with their carcases for fun...

I really question PETA's sanity sometimes. I think their goal is admirable, to not mistreat animals, but they go WAY too far most of the time. Sometimes to the point of abandoning their own message with violence or cruelty. I've lost all respect for that organization.

The little girl starts crying "I don't want to kill a dog!"

This is the sort of insane rhetoric and in-your-face messages Peta spreads around. How anyone at that organization doesn't see why a commercial like that would backfire is beyond me.

Paint otherwise loving pet owners as careless predators. Way to win people over.

Well, no. Of course not. Those are farm raised.

So here are two hypotheticals for ya.

    1) would you, given no other choice, slaughter your own farm animals in order to get your fix?

    2) would you, given no other choice, go forth and hunt and kill wild animals in order to get your fix?

(and yes, still in devils advocate mode...I love delicious animals too :p)

***Yeah, sport hunting is a different thing.***

Well, it is and it isn't.

There certainly is a huge double (multiple?) standard as it pertains to which animals we are or are not allowed to, for lack of a better word, abuse.

Many have a problem with the deer head over the fireplace but have no problem with the marlin over the fireplace.

NONE of those people would kill a dog for sport (even the Koreans at least eat the beast).

And the president could swat a fly to sycophantic applause, and yet some disturbed kid who killed cats is considered a monster who should be locked up for life (I'm not even going to delve into the psyche implications here...simply the dichotomy of our way with animals), but people hold down decent jobs slitting the throats of pigs all day long.

    It's just weird. That's all I'm sayin.

I'd say 99.9% of us DO value mammal life higher than insect life. So I don't see the contradiction in valuing human life over non-human life.

I agree we should not be cruel to animals. I'm down with much of what PETA stands for. But then they just go off the deep end, as 2oony says.

I was VERY upset when we were in Seattle. We went to Pike Place Fish Market and they didn't throw a single fish.

I don't think we throw nearly enough food.

Not according to PETA. They issued a statement saying the President shouldn't have swatted the fly.
