It's not like they're really giving that much extra support (for me, at least) by doing it, so it's kind of like they're just there to squeeze your elbow to wake you up and see if you're paying attention.

    The "official" places that we're allowed to touch at my work are hand, shoulder and upper back, all of which seem like they would be appropriate for most circumstances. We are also told that other circumstances may occur when we're allowed to touch in other ways (like a hug). I would expect that unloading a disabled passenger from a suspended boat would probably be one of those "other" circumstances.

Getting grabbed by the elbow when you're not expecting it definately causes people to do a double take, as if they are being touched in an inappropriate spot. I'm sure it's what the lawyers decided was best, but I still think it isn't the best way to do it.
