I'm used to paying $50 or so for cheap seats (and sometimes good seats) - even on broadway. I usually pick and choose based on the deals I can get. I paid $55 to see Wicked, and sat 3rd row center during first week of previews. Becasue I've seen phantom twice, I can't bring myself to spending more than $50 to see a production, especially from the back rows. (I'd pay $80 to $100 for good seats to a show I think will be incredible)

I'm a little surprised that you got such good deals on Broadway. It was a bit of sticker shock seeing the much higher prices at the major theatres there versus what I'm used to in L.A. We're seeing "The Lion King" again at the Pantages in L.A. in December, and instead of going for the higher priced tickets, we decided to pay a little less because we've seen it several times before, including at the Pantages, and it'll only have been seven months since we last saw the show. But we paid full price for second row seats at the New Amsterdam in May because I definitely wanted to see it in that theatre from a good location. Not sure what I'm going to be willing to spend on Phantom tickets in Vegas. It used to be my favorite show, until "Mamma Mia" came along. Even though I've seen that show 8 times now, including once in Vegas, I'd definitely be up for paying regular price again next time we see it in Vegas. /cs

And, I agree that $70 doesn't seem too bad for a Broadway show, and especially a big-budget Vegas production. Most newer Vegas theaters are designed to have good views from anywhere in the house. Is this not true for the new Venetian theater for Phantom?

I won't tell you everying they reveal, because it was a jaw-dropping moment, but for the most part it's a re-creation of the Paris Opera House. The chandelier begins the show in four pieces! One on the stage, and three suspended in various positions above tha audience. Watching it come together is amazing with the phantom organ music playing and the orchestrated lights shinging on and coming from the chandelier. The voices were great, especially Christine and the Phantom. Raoul was a little weak, and the rest of the ensemble was quite good. Other highlights: Real fireworks throughout the show, but especially in the sky above the rising facade of the opera house. Just incredible. 3 stunt men in each show, so the phantom is everywhere and doing everything. The chandelier falls so fast! The audience jumped big time, and it stops not far above the heads of the people on the floor. The lights go out just before it stops, followed by a crashing sound. The cuts in the show didn't detract a thing in my opinion. The tightened the story and dropped the intermission. Every song was still there, at least I didn't miss anything. So am I glad I paid $125? Yes. I had a friend in the ensemble, so it was fun to see him. Also they call it a spectacular, and it really is.

I am trying to sound very vague not to spoil anything....Hope that makes sense....

There was one moment when Madam Giry and Raoul were talking and they came out partway down the aisle...it wasn't kooky or anything. "Also, how well did the Phantom and his attachment to the chandelier come off?" It was pretty cool, but you could easily see the harness. They had the stuntman phantom "hanging" on with one hand, as he shouted some lines right after the singing like a toad scene.

So the chandelier does its crash on the stage....But there is still more to the show....So how effectively do they get rid of it to finish out the program? This is something that I had never thought of before until this evening....It doesn't seem like it would be an easy to pull off....Thanks....
