Which if you add it to the 2.8 billion the previous three films made not including video and merchandising, it just makes adds icing to the cake.

I like a good smaller art house film, but Midnight is Woody Allen, I never liked any of his films. And Tree of Life just looks like it's trying to hard to be artsy and self important.

This time? No one was even excited for it. I was mildly interested, but any time I brought up possibly checking it out I was instantly shot down.

I won't forget hearing groans of "Another one?" when the Super Bowl commercial came on.

Say what you will about the "Fast" franchise and his choice in projects, but Vin Diesel is *hardly* inadequate!

As for Pirates 4, we saw it yesterday (2D matinee) and had a good time. It's not as highly quotable as the first movie, but it's still fun and entertaining. I also didn't think the after credit bit was worth hanging around to see.

Maybe its reading all the lousy reviews after seeing the film ... but a lot of the comments really resonated with me. And I started thinking that maybe I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

Maybe it's just been Pirates overload for five years now. The first film was such a wonderful surprise, but now they just seem to be more of the same ...

Not bad at all ... but like a WDW theme park ... played out.

I can tell you this debut pretty much guarantees the two more films Disney wants to make ... but I just don't see what the reason is ... the series needs to change direction and not be more of the same.

I think the true question will be will it hang on for over a week/two at the Box Office? I can easily see it making its initial numbers as it does have a good "fan base" of both loyal and casual fans that'll plop down the cash to see it even if its horrible but itll be seen if that group either comes back or recommends it to non fans...

I don't think anyone predicted Dead Man's Chest type numbers did they, especially after At World's End?!!!

I didn't think the 3d added anything at all to the movie though.

I enjoyed it. But found the storyline to be beyond simplistic. To demonstrate; the plot. Everyone is looking for The Fountain of Youth. No plot twists. No surprises.

But lets face it. We don't go see the Pirate movies for intricate plots. We go to see the quips, asides, and antics of some delightful characters we have grown to love. Jack and Barbossa are great characters played by great actors. And you can tell they are enjoying themselves. It's just fun to watch.

I mean, what is the downside? Apparently Depp and gang enjoy making them. The studio is making a ton of money.

    What is the harm?

I understand your points though. Disney does like to beat things into the ground (such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire).

No one is going to give academy awards out for this type of show ( although that's a whole other topic)- but what this movie is is pure entertainment. I found potc 4 better than 2,3 - not as good as 1.
It's as if something that is successful today ( like a movie franchise or good band - or great tv show whatever)- has to be torn down because we can't stand success. It's very sad.

it was more 'piratey' than the last two- which I consider a good thing. Plot is intersting enough with a few twists to keep ones attention, but not too complicated where one doesn;t know what the hell is going on. Jack is back to being the main character which works for me...Blackbeard an interesting addition and I think grounds the movie. . And as far as Mermaids- especially Serena- very nice addition
