I saw the movie at a San Francisco Drive-in located near the water, where ocean winds pushed in clouds, mist and fog that darted the moonlight sky and blew around the screen at just the right momments (the fight scenes). It was pure movie magic that made the drive-in a perfect setting to see the film for those unable to attend the Disneyland premiere or see the show at the El Capitan. My bulletpoint comments: 1) The special effects and sets for this film were AMAZING! Perfect for a summer blockbuster hit. I couldn't ask for more. 2) I liked the musical score. I did notice the electric guitar and thought it sounded strange for this picture. But, I assumed it's inclusion was paying a wink to the rock star being casted in the movie who was Jonny Depp's inspiration for the Jack Sparrow character. There were a lot of homages, winks and nods included in this final installment of the POTC franchise. 2) The movie's fight scenes were great, a little long and more violent than usual at points, but great stuff overall. 3) There were more Jack Sparrows in this movie than you can shake a stick at! Jack definitely got his screen time. 4) Too many characters with too many added story lines were introduced , with many of these characters being killed off later in the film (as previously mentioned). Were these added characters with their added side plots really necessary to move the story along? 5) Some of the nonhuman pirate characters seemed better suited for a Star Wars film than a POTC film. The cursed skeleton crew worked well in adapting characters from the original POTC ride. But, Hammerhead Sharkboy, Kelp Daddy and other wild characters that were "Part of the Ship", as well as the woman growing 50 foot tall...were kinda over the top. This is POTC not Sinbad. 6)Now that Kiera was made a captain and her role became so significant in the final POTC movie, an AA of her character almost needs to be added to the POTC ride since Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones and Barbarossa were added. She is woman..here here roar. 7) I could complain about the movie length, which seemed a bit too long. But, I also saw the movie at 11:45pm...getting out at 3:00am. It's hard for me to complain about the show time when I waited so late in the night to see it. 8) Overall, I really liked the final Pirates movie. And with three episodes completed, and all the theme park tie-in added to remind us the the successful POTC movie trilogy, I'm happy and satisfied with the conclusion of the POTC movie franchise.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the film, especially given the mixed reviews. We enjoyed it tremendously. I didn't think the plot was too complicated - I enjoyed having to work through a few things in it. The only think I didn't care for were the mini-jack sparrows talking in Jack's ears. That is a stale old bit of comedy, to say the least. In fact that was the only thing that got a little tiresome - the multiple Jacks -- but such a small part of it. I didn't catch that Will only had to serve 10 years, but I hope that is true (I had to watch Tia Dalma with the closed captioning on the DVD of DMC to finally figure out everything she was saying, so I may have to do that again with this one!) We will definitely go and see it again. Great fun and we had 4 12 year olds with us who loved every minute of it.

Unless, since Davey Jones wasn't doing his job (hence his "monster" appearance), maybe that was why he could only set foot on land once every 10 years. Since Will did the job as assigned, he is released, but I remember no mention of that. At Knott's Soak City, their locker area is called "Davey Jones Lockers" LOL I got a kick out of that one.

However, several people who have now seen AWE have said that she further explains that the reason he is stuck to the ten year rule is that after the first ten years, where he was dutifully doing his job ferrying souls to the other side and he went back to see his lady love (Calypso aka Tia Dalma)she was not waiting for him. Because she didn't wait for him he was doomed to stay for ever - and that is when he began to get nasty and he abandoned his job and started growing tentacles. At least that is what how I am understanding it. I still have some difficulty with Tia Dalma's dialect.

What I understood was that he was supposed to do this forever, and that every ten years he got one day on land. I never understood that if your true love was waiting for you you wouldn't have to go back. And, Will's Dad even says to him something about how 1 day on land every 10 years wasn't worth it, and Will says it depends on the one day. Isn't Will now immortal since he is doing this job?

Linking her nature to the nature of the sea. So he got angry and told the Pirates how to imprison Calypso in a human form to get back at her for not showing. He also started neglecting his job and became the monster because of his anger, love scorned, etc etc etc. Will will be released as Elizabeth was waiting for him when he returned to land after ten years. The 1 day in 10 years that Will was refering to was their wedding night, not every 1 day/ 10 years for eternity. The question I have is, who becomes captain of the Flying Dutchman after Will returns and is no longer captain. What will Calypso do now that she is released. And of course there is the whole, Jack Sparrow sailing off on another adventure with the map. They definately left a lot open for another movie.

(Can you see my disdain for this movie )

One day FOR ten years, rather than one day EVERY ten years ... although I didn't pick up on the idea until I read it in this board, it's quite possible that after serving the ten years he could return for good.

I am almost positive that Will can come and go as he pleases now, but am confused as to if he is to remain captain and can come and go, or if he is released from the job. Also, I am very curious as to what Elizabeth and her son did during those ten years. Just because she was there when he returned, does not mean she did not have an adventure packed decade. The last scene of the movie (after the credits) could be the ending of the final movie they will make, but then Will would be an absent presence in the future, so that wouldn't work. I actually like a complicated story line. Like Harry Potter, it leaves for a lot of open doors and possibilities. It's kinda fun to put all the pieces together. (I had to watch AWE twice, and appreciated it much more the second time around.
