My only real problem with the movie was the poor payoff for Tia Dalma. She either should have kicked serious butt, or just gone "thanks mates" and returned to the sea. What was all that about turning into the 50 foot woman, screaming at them and then leaving in a fit of crabs? I almost wonder if there was more in the script that was cut for time.
I also would have liked more of Norrington and a better payoff for him. Either embrace the villain or the hero. I guess there was too much else going on for him to get much screen time or character development. Too bad.

Ah yes, the Special Extended Kira Edition; I can just see you telling Bruckheimer that four hours is *still* not long enough. ;)

Who came up with the stigma that 3 hours was just long enough and anything longer was bad?????

Just put in an intermission. The theaters would make more money!!

Yeah, just like in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" or "The Beatles' HELP!" :)

Just kidding. I'm young, but not THAT young.

Didn't Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz have intermissions?

Many other movies DID have intermissions, though. I'm pretty sure that most epics like The 10 Commandments, Ben Hur, Sound of Music, etc, all had them. Heck, even Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had an intermission, which has a shorter running time than either DMC or AWE!

I vaguely remember the Sound of Music being really long...almost like WWI itself. LOL

I remember that back in the 60's most movies had intermissions. Of course that was before the advent of the multiplex. Cinemas were single, stand alone jobs, often with big curved "Cinerama" screens.

I would guess that so he could live forever. If he was dead, the Dutchman would have no captain, Kiera would be a widow and there'd be a worldwide collective gasp from female moviegoers between the ages of 12-56...and Kira.

He was pretty much dead anyway, so his father was doing him a favor.

But then...Jack was also contemplating about cutting out his heart so he could be the captain of the Dutchman and live forever. I'm assuming the Dutchman and its crew will be around for a while and...man this is too complicated. Why couldn't this have been a simple epic like Lord of the Rings?

Have you people conversed with the MousePlaneteers about this? Or the Doombuggiers? Or the Jim Hillians?

I don't think intermissions would fly nowadays ... the general public isn't used to it. They'd leave after the first half thinking the movie was over.

It happened with "Grindhouse" with its "fake" intermission.

At least, that's what I read.

Was Fellowship of the Ring the movie that made long movies "in" again? Or was it something earlier?

I think they have since learned that they make a heckuva lot more on concessions than they will ever make selling tickets. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they brought intermissions back.
