Depp's biggest problem recently has been that he has chosen projects pretty poorly. He is unquestionably a very talented actor and really just needs to be a bit more choosy on scripts to get his career back on track. I think his biggest mistake has been to focus too much on the ultra-quirky roles. While those may be what propelled him to his biggest successes, he's reached an age where he really needs to more strongly establish himself as a character actor. He's certainly capable of it and has given some strong, more straightforward performances ("Sleepy Hollow" immediately comes to mind), so he just needs to find the right projects.

I like going to movies where I can see an actor become something new and different; with him it just seems like it's Johnny Depp playing a Johnny Depp character in a Johnny Depp movie. It's fun at first, but the novelty has worn off

It's called Black Mass and the trailer looks very promising. <a target="blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/433197-black-mass-watch-the-trailer-for-the-crime-drama-starring-johnny-depp">http://www.comingsoon.net/movi...nny-depp</a>
