A ride that is supposed to transport you back in time, suddenly becomes contemporary because you're graced with the face of a contemporary actor. I have heard that some of those audioanimatronic figures have the likenesses of people Walt knew, or people who worked behind the scenes in imagineering. But these men would be unknown to most of the public. I know that Depp is portraying a character, but his face can't help but stand out among the rest. For that reason I would have personally just left the ride alone. It's all personal opinion though.

Originally Posted By USCSurfer Having had the chance to ride the attraction today, I can say that it is largely the same classic experience it has always been. That might be why I'm having a little more trouble with warming up to the change on POTC. You can't get any more Americana than Disneyland, or Pirates of the Caribbean. It can be difficult for me to separate the reality of who actors are from the roles they're playing, especially when they express their beliefs in the way so many of them do. They're certainly entitled to their opinions, but unfortunately for some of them, it overshadows their craft and makes it more difficult for us audience members to suspend that disbelief when seeing them in movies, or in this case, a Disneyland attraction.
