Many things impressed me about Up, but one of them was the way they shifted between buddy comedy, adventure yarn, poignant love story, goofy slapstick, almost Euro-Fellini symbolist-drama, and back again so seamlessly and effectively, without seeming disjointed. I don't know if it's my favorite Pixar, but it's right up there, and after I see it again and catch some of what I missed, it might be.

What was a little different about this one was that instead of just a single person, it was a relationship that changed and grew up. One of my biggest regrets for this film (at least after seeing it only once) was that it didn't resolve as nicely as the Carl & Ellie montage. Luckily, the sentiment of that montage really carried the story through the film and served as a motivation for all the action being taken. Very beautifully done.
