From what I've seen and read, I think it's just one big joke. The originator of the date is not joking, but every single person I've talked to has made a joke out of it. I don't think anybody is seriously thinking this is going to happen. We may feel like American's are dumb, but in this instance I think it's just something to talk about and think the guy is crazy.

A long time ago I was invited to join a "non denominational" bible study group at work. Predicting that the end was imminent was the #1 topic in that group. It was interesting to participate in that group, which I did for a year, after which I politely excused myself. It really helped me learn what makes Protestant Fundamenalists tick. Its where I learned that they see themselves as God's special elite. This of course is the hallmark of Fundamentalism in general and can definitely be found in non Protestant circles (Such as the Society of St Pius X) I also learned that they harbor a great deal of mistrust towards each other, as one group insisted Pastor Bob had the truth while another group insisted that it was Pastor Jim who had it right. Pastors engage in a lot of "sheep stealing" from each other and the faithful are not hesitant to jump ship. I also learned there that a local Baptist school would not accept students from many Evangelical Churches, especially from Charismatic or Pentecostal Churches. They are most definitely not the big happy family outsiders see them as.

That's why china alone has murdered to some accounts, 100 million of it's own people in just the last century, yet silly lost Americans think we need to be like that part of the World. So yes i understand how ignorant, and down right silly Westerners can be.

That'd be pretty neat, a superelectrical storm that makes it's way all the way around the planet (carefully timed to the time zones cause, you know, that's important so as to strike fear in our hearts and give us our chance to gnash our teeth and wail so we're good and ready to truly appreciate the eternal damnation to come). Then again, if he's feeling REALLY creative he could just reach down and tamper with the superhydron collector and turn us all into antimatter (it IS the 21st Century, after all...his options are wide open this time around).

Kinda hilarious that you cite Buddhism here when most religious extremists claim that Chinese ATHEISM is to blame for all those deaths. Try again when you get your facts straight.

I will be quoting you all over the place every time someone tries to blame Chinese deaths on a LACK of religion. I LOVE IT!

Ummm, who in America thinks we need to be like CHINA? Egads, no one, I'd guess. Or, well, if they've murdered 100 million of their own citizens, I'll guess that maybe George Bush would. He killed more people than any other Texan governor.
