I'm not perfect. I know this. In many ways I'm a bad human being. But at the very least I don't spend my life trying to bilk suckers out of their money.

At least I have THAT going for me! ;)

My question is, how does a lunatic like this score 50+ broadcast licenses from the US government?

Oh goody ... the press is in the studio, asking questions.

    Maybe so.

    Lunatics DO exist, of course.

MY question is, WHY do so very many people take the guy seriously!?

He has enough wealthy kooks following him to keep the operation going (or he did before Saturday). I think they pass out AM radios at the mental hospitals.

Thanks, he says, blushing. But it's temporary, I'm afraid.

I decided, for my own mental well-being, that I needed a total break from following the news and the discussions of it. I was cranky and depressed all the time, and was wasting ridiculous hours poring over HuffPo, Frum and Daily Caller.

I do miss you guys, but it really is doing me a lot of good concentrating my energy on more "local" concerns, and I'll be resuming that policy soon.

But this story is so relevant to my interests that I just had to see what LP was saying about it.

I backslid. And it's all Family Radio's fault!!

HuffPo is like Mola Ram in the Temple of Doom - I needed Short Round to show up and yell, "ecdc, cover your heart!"

I still read it on occasion, but I rarely take it very seriously. When I realized just how poisonous it was on me, I even started a thread here, which I'm sure struck most as out of the blue and odd, but it was a strange realization that these websites were making me honest-to-goodness depressed.

Good for you! Not only have I pulled away from HP and cable news, I took a step away from WE and it's all been very helpful in stabilizing my blood pressure. OK, I'm kidding about the high blood pressure, but seriously, taking some time off from the barrage of poisonous news and debate, especially in this section of LP, was a very good thing for me to do.

    VERY sorry to hear that!

TOTALLY understandable. In fact, I've done it myself but it wasn't through personal choice as you might know. I simply stopped caring about such things due to stuff happening in MY "real world".

But in any case, I can dig where you're coming from though I'll miss hearing from you (please do chime in from time to time if you feel like doing so!).

    ***I do miss you guys***

I LOVE the LP community, and almost each and every member of it has talked to me about this or that and have given me a lot of support and TONS of friendships (virtual and otherwise!). If you decide to disappear forever, that would certainly be a true loss to our little community, and I hope you'll re-consider (at least, perhaps you could avoid world events but still post elsewhere? But of course, that's entirely up to you!).

I felt some LP’ers had treated me very unfairly on a personal basis during a very fragile time in my life. I left because I truly could not tolerate the pain of being here any longer.

I did not return for many months until someone on Facebook made a post that Mr X was inquiring about me on LP. The person making the inquiry was Mr X. Although X and I had certainly exchanged differing points of view over the years, he called me from JAPAN shortly after my wife's death and talked with me for almost an hour. It meant far more to me than I think he ever imagined. I also remembered how wonderfully all of the LP'ers at the December 2009 LP meet at Disneyland had treated both Ann and me. How could I NOT come back to LP?

I did learn my lesson. I decided I would try to never post such personal information on LP again. I recently violated that decision with my "There must be a God" post. It had been a very emotional week. I had FINALLY closed on both the sale of my Branson condo and the permanent financing I obtained on my present home in Nixa. Previously I could not qualify for both mortgages on my retirement income, but was able to finance the Nixa home with a one-year loan with a huge balloon at the end through my bank's commercial lending department.

Now I was freed from having to pay over $900 a month for 11 months for my vacant condo plus the payment on my new home in Nixa. I also knew that by obtaining a conventional 30-year mortgage on my Nixa home I would not have to pay off the remainder due in just another month. That was combined with medical issues for my mother, my father-in-law and myself. It was an emotional time and my post got personal. I hope to avoid that in the future.

The response to that post has been positive, but I'm just not willing to reveal that much of myself any more.

So mawnck, that is my very long-winded (as usual) way of saying that I understand your decision 100%.

I'm not at all surprised, but just very sorry.

I was an honor and a privilege to speak with you, Jerry.

It was funny last Saturday I went to Mass and at the end Priest told everyone to have a good evening unless the world ends. And he said it with a chuckle.
