In fact just before we left( we were in Arroyo Grande) the power went out in our hotel around 9:30 this morning,we hung around fir an hour waiting for the rain to let up but during that time firemen were trying to get people out of the elevators that were stuck in there. Pour daughter left about 1/2 hr after we did and saud the people were still in there!

The next two days will be very busy as we try to get everything ready so our son can take care of the farm with as little effort as possible. Then there is the packing. Hopefully by Sunday afternoon we will be on the road. A three day drive seems ominous but a week camping with the grandkids should make it all worth it. Hope everyone is enjoying summer and staying cool. (That can be taken either way.)

Originally Posted By iamsally We are here and so enjoying our grandbabies in spite of the massive storm last night. (We are tent camping.) We managed to stay mostly dry but the screen tent collapsed during the night. We have never been East of Wyoming before. Lake Michigan is amazing.

Unfortunately, we came home and soon got the news that my darling niece has become a widow at the tender age of 43. Her husband was killed in a car crash on Sunday afternoon. Their children are grown with the exception of their youngest who is a college bound high school senior. Just as they were making their "empty nest" plans he was taken from her. She will be totally alone. (Yes, she has family support but no matter how well meaning we all are; there is really nothing we can do to ease her suffering.) I cannot even imagine what she is going through. My heart just breaks for her.
