Why should it trouble you that political leaders would uphold it? You think it better they scheme and plot to undermine the decisions of the Supreme Court on legal matters like abortion, like the Republicans do? If it bothers you so much, you're really barking up the wrong tree because it's the Republicans who keep the abortion issue alive and well...they've had plenty of opportunity over the decades to craft a Constitutional Amendment outlawing the practice, and they've chosen not to. The reason being, they WANT abortion to remain legal so they can make political hay over it. So, which is worse?

So by that standard you would not have been troubled watching Pres's. Buchanon and Lincoln(early Lincoln admin.) uphold slavery---- Dred Scott decsion of 1857 whereby the Taney Court effectively declared that slaves are not human but mere property. Afterall that was the "law of the land", no? Or you want Chief to execute only those laws/policies **WHICH YOU AGREE WITH**......I'm guessing the latter.
