Dug, I have no interest in you leaving WEs. Really. But surely you see the irony in this statement. You took a series of Biden one-liners and posted them to portray him as a gaffe machine. Talk about making context meaningless.

Which means he's worse than Herbert Hoover and Warren G. Harding. Yikes! I'd posted this before but it's worth a read again. Josh, I'd be genuinely interested in your take.

This article is two years old and I don't see anything Bush has done to redeem himself since.

Oy vey, again? Make sure to wash up after you've been here, because I'm sure you just feel dirty coming here.

And if want to write that comment off as typical SPP, so what. But in a rare moment of self-reflection you might have, consider that is certainly the impression you give to more than a few people here. Leaving in a self-righteous fit of pique is what you do well here. I'm well aware I can be a rude, confrontational so and so at times. Needlessly even. But with you, it's as if you deign to favor us before you lecture us and leave. Really.

I'm really not all that into politics. I try to stay informed, but I can't watch CNN all day and read every 6 page article that comes my way. I find it more important worry about my faith, my family, my neighborhood, my job, and my community.

I don't disagree at all. I know I've certainly been guilty of some frustrated, heated moments. But lately it seems like only conservatives are leaving WE's in a huff.

As much as they may want to attribute this to the rudeness of others (and it may be part of it) I think it has more to do with not having much of a leg to stand on. When we were debating the Iraq war in 2002 and 2003, WE's was a pretty moderate place with a variety of opinions. But as its gotten more and more difficult to defend Bush and the Republicans, more and more conservatives have left. That's not a coincidence.

And now that we have two decent candidates in McCain and Obama, more have returned and, it seems to me at least the debate hasn't been as one-sided. That's a good thing. But McCain has been sounding more and more like Bush the last few months. That again creates a situation where it's tough to be a Republican. It's tough to defend the issues that the party has made a big deal out of: invading a sovereign nation that wasn't a threat to us or gay marriage.

I'm genuinely not saying this to pick on the Republicans on these boards. But it ought to be a wake up call. This is what happens when your party is hijacked by religious conservatives. This is what happens when the debate is about gay marriage or stem cells instead of fiscal responsibility and national security, the things Republicans used to be good at. Those are legitimate issues where there may be legitimate disagreements, but we all want what's best for the country. You can stand up and proudly say you're a Republican. That's hard now. How do you stand up after the last eight years and say they've done a good job? How do you stand up and take pride in your political party? It's gotta be like trying to be a Democrat in 1979. It can't be easy. So I think posters here get frustrated and leave.

And you should've seen the cantankerous, nasty posts on laughingplace back THEN, boy howdy.

I thought the poor ADMINS were going to have a collective aneurysm. Liberals were storming out in droves, frustrated by the reality of the day. They were trying to blame the price of gas and the Iranian hostage debacle on the Republicans, for pete's sake! Jonvn kept insisting that America was far too bigoted to ever vote in an ACTOR, he insisted Reagan wouldn't carry a single primary. The only respite was TDLFAN and his thread about Donna Summer (Play Pen hadn't been invented back in those days).

    Wow, those were the days.

    And, more personal attacks.

But you ARE correct. There is still time for Bush to screw up even worse (yikes), thus cementing his legacy as the worst president we've ever suffered though.

    Don't you mean "worse", Woody?

    As in "worse than Bush"?

Anyway, I wouldn't go that far but I agree that they suck.

I can't quite figure it out, but it seems to me that they are afraid of GWB. Seriously.

I'm not sure why (I have my kooky theories but I won't go there), but there you have it.

    They are impotent right now.

How many people have you referred to as "kooky", "stupid", or some such dismissive comment?

Grow up, brutha. You're defending the indefensible, how did you not expect people to refute that?

Sure, it's frustrating. But that's no reason to go around attacking everyone.

I say Bush is an idiot based upon the actions of his first term (which ended over 3 years ago for those that are keeping track). A second term has provided us the ability to see all of the idiotic consequences of his actions during the first 4 years in office.
