You understand correctly. In the 70s and 80s, occupancy was often between 95-99% (never 100% because there were always rooms out of service for rehabs). Now, WDW never gets much closer to sell-outs than low-90s. They have too many rooms, rooms are also often held back, and many are rehabbed. "If its always full, then why discount?" Why indeed.

During my one visit to the PC (Jan 04) it was pretty full. I suppose that the value resorts are an easier sell these days (compared to the moderate and luxury resorts)

Originally Posted By LuvDatDisney It's very easy to say one resort is sold out. This happens frequently at the value and moderate resorts, especially Pop Century (because of its newness) and CBR. But even if 5-6 WDW resorts are sold out that doesn't mean there aren't hundreds or thousands of empty rooms on property. It also doesn't take into account when a resort takes inventory out of use for rehabs, remodeling, cleaning or just to lower the total number of rooms available. This happens all the time. And if Pop Century ever sees Phase II completed you can bet it will be family suites because it's one area that WDW lodging completely lacks, even with over 30,000 rooms on property. And don't think other folks don't realize it ... just take a drive by the Nickolodeon themed resort that's not even half a mile off property. I also wouldn't be surprised to see rooms at the other values (and perhaps mods) get combined for family suites. They have a few being tested at the All Star Music right now (pics are on wdwig.com).

Except there comes a time when you have to ask is WDW supposed to be simply a time-share resort. And I can tell you that despite any Disney spin that Saratoga Springs is not selling nearly as well as they had hoped. They dumped hundreds of rooms on Travelocity recently over the Christmas holiday for $38 a night. Does that sound like 'we're selling like gangbusters' to you?

Now SS I agree, I just don't know what they were thinking -- I have no problem withmore DVC units...but please keep the quality at an OKW - Boardwalk level -- especially since people are paying twice per point what I did

I think the value suites will be awesome so my family doesn't have to worry about cost.
