Don't you think I've been around WE long enough to see that? A very interesting article from the Washington Post. <<All of this cogitating about contentment has revealed much about who's supposedly happy and who isn't. Most studies show that wealthy people are marginally happier than poor ones. People with pets or children are no happier than those without. People with active sex lives are -- surprise! -- happier than those without. No single morsel of happiness data, though, is more intriguing than this: Republicans are happier than Democrats. A 2006 Pew Research poll found that 45 percent of Republicans describe themselves as "very happy," compared with only 30 percent of Democrats (and 29 percent of independents). This is a sizable gap and a remarkably consistent one, too. Republicans have been happier than Democrats every year since the General Social Survey, conducted biannually by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, began asking about happiness in 1972.>> source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/..._pf.html P.S. vbdad... I think you're becoming a Democrat. You might want to rethink your presidential choice… ;-)

Do you have a problem with that? I don't. I try to find happiness in everything I do. More often than not I’m successful. From the article I linked to: <<There is something to be said for the under-examined life. Psychologists have found that when it comes to maximizing contentment, a little bit of self-deception goes a long way. Happy people remember events more rosily than they actually happened, while the morose remember the past accurately.>>

Holy cow, go to bed and wake up to find the DOW was as low as EIGHT HUNDRED POINTS down!?!? Lucky those bargain hunters came in when they did...certainly this had the potential to be bad, bad, bad... Funny thing..after the big 777 crash last Monday, I had several friends ask me if now "is the time to get in?". I offered no comment. One came back the next day and bitched at me because the DOW was up 500 points and I should've told him to get in. I think I'll give him a call today.

RoadTrip, it's all well and good that you think you somehow "predicted" that things wouldn't be all that bad today...but imho at some point the government will run out of bullets to throw at the tanking market. I hope not, but it seems to me that on these awful days they have CONSISTENTLY thrown in some sort of "sweetener" in the form of rate cuts, better deals for banks, or some other unprecedented and frankly reckless band-aid in order to stave off a complete market crash for yet another day/week. Personally I think they are only prolonging the pain. Let the market do what it will, and then start over fresh having said goodbye to all the toxic companies that dug their own graves to begin with and are better gone than still functioning and screwing up our system further. Just my humble opinion, of course.

Thanks a heap.

I heard there's a 700 billion dollar limit on that thing.

My wife has never quite agreed with that, but given the current situation I think she would. I'd be fine. If I was hugging on to her every night when I went to sleep I'd be OK with living in a tent. At the end of every day, that is what I value the most anyway.
