Oh, I'm sure he's in her morphine dreams, as that is HER man. OMG - she LOVES Johnny Depp. She describes in great detail what she'd like to do to him and him to her.

    LMAO!

We actually have a picture of him next to her bed. How funny! The other night my mom got her to laugh because she was in pain and she kept mouthing...

"Aye mama, aye mama, aye mama, aye mama over and over." My aunt said "mama what's wrong? Is your pain really strong?" My grandma didn't answer.

My mom said "Or you just thinking about Johnny over here mom?" My grandma opened her eyes and smiled. LMAO!

btw, if she's still on oxygen her throat may be very sore (from personal experience). I found that the nurses forget about this sometimes with all the other more important things going on.

I love the feeling with fingers story! Reminds me of when my mom needed brain surgery and was delerious before it. She kept telling us that her hospital room was the hairdressers. We argued at length until the nurse came in to prep her and said, "Mrs. L., I'm here to take off your nailpolish." At that, my mom shot us all a dirty look and daintily held out her hand for a manicure.

Sounds like you have a great family, Lisa. Many more positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Well, the last 48 hours have been very up and down in terms of her recovery. She went from wide awake and loopy to drowsy and sleepy and uncommunicative again.

She's on so many antibiotics and other med's it takes twp poles to hang all the pouches of meds. She is still receiving breathing treatments.

She has begun to eat soft foods, she needs to in order to recover. Only problem is it's making her miserable because what goes in must come out and being the infection is very acidy, it's not pretty.

Her skin is so delicate that she is acquiring quite a few bed sores and with the above problem she's at risk for infection so she has to be turned, cleaned, moved over and over again for clean up and lotion for the rashes.

We've have a couple of episodes where we were less than thrilled with the care she received. Some bad bedside manner from one nurse and neglect in our eyes from another. Our fear is that maybe she is not getting quite the attention she needs from "all" her nurses because she is 85 and they feel she's a long shot. My mom expressed that to her team of doctors and they assured us they would take care of that.

We are not a raging family from hell. My mom is cool as a cucumber but it's been a bit difficult. We've been direct and to the point without being emotional or to demanding.

On the advice of a good friend, we keep a notebook in the room and whoever is there with her and speaks to doctors or nurses records what has been said, if a new treatment has been given, a med changed. This is helping and it's also stopping the nurses from being frustrated with having to re-tell as new people come in what is happening with my grandma.

My mom is her primary caretaker so everything goes through her.

They are thinking of putting her back in ICU so she will have 2 to 1 care versus 5 to 1 care. I hope they do. As it also limits the amount of family members in the room at one time.

We are a huge family and everyone loves grandma, but her room is like Grand Central Station. My mom and aunts are caught between a rock and a hard place in that she needs our care along with the medical staff so it's a balance between too much help and not enough rest for her.

We will work it out. Considering her age and the amount of things wrong with her: the intestinal infection, bladder infection, yeast infection, pneumonia, congested heart failure, a bad back, and bed sores she is getting better.

Our fear is that with each day she is on morphine and not on her treatment for parkinson she is slipping deeper and deeper into the dementia.

Some of my relatives are having a really hard time with that. As they come to see her and she doesn't recognize them. We have told them over and over while she was well over the last couple years you need to come see her. Everyone gets busy and you take for granted that the people you love are always going to be there and be healthy but life doesn't work that way.

So it's a pretty emotional experience as my grandma has always had the unique ability to make each and every one of her children, grandchildren, great grand children and great great grandchildren feel special in their relationship with her.

Keep praying for her and us. We all so appreciate it. ;> Thanks for listening to me.

That is the biggest blessing.

She's eating better today. Sitting up in bed and talking. The mystery is who's see talking to and about. Right now it's Patty and her puppies. For which we have no clue but them damn puppies are running up and down the hall and making a mess. Patty never cleans up after them. She loves dogs but these guys are as well behaved as her Sammy and Simba.

She asked my mom if she could go downstairs in the wheelchair if she brought Sammy and Simba to see her and that she wants to go home NOW.

We are taking that as a good sign. She remembers our dogs but none of us, seems about right. ;>

So maybe she'll fight now. We were quite entertained by her this morning. These "dogs" are really bugging her. She told the nurse - "you got these puddle pads under me, but you let the puppies piss everywhere." The nurse looked at her, looked at us, we just shrugged our shoulders. My grandma said, "you need to call Patty to get these puppies and take them to the pound."

My mom and I thought she was gonna break out with Peter Piper picked a prickly pickle at any minute.

All of my thoughts are with you and your wonderful family. Here's to her recovery. Much love....
