My guess is that 90% of Americans who identify themselves as Republican or conservative would be appalled at this and agree that the Obama daughters are good kids who should be immune from political criticism.

Kids should be left out of the equation. That wasn't the case. It was shameful when the Alaskan blogger made fun of Palin's baby Trig. And this just as shameful and those who participate in this behavior should be properly chastised.

But that doesn't assure any kind of journalistic integrity or a responsible authority for whatever happens to get posted. If someone referred to Malia as 'ghetto street trash' on LP, it may or may not get redlined. But either way, it's an obnoxious comment by a relatively anonymous author. Anybody can say pretty much anything they like on the internet. But if your site is filled with inane rantings and bile like that, nobody but nutcases are ever going to read it. And the people who are running the site are just as likely to be right wing nutcases themselves, just fanning the flames. In some ways, I agree with William - you can always go out and scour the net for horrible people saying irresponsible things on either side. The difference is that we've just gone through a tidal shift in our government, so the people squawking the loudest now are different from the ones that that were cranky over the last eight years.
