This was from last year, basically implying that Sarah Palin's son is being sent to Iraq because he impregnated Bristol....

I could do this all night, there are folks on both sides, even those in leadership positions (Do I even need to go back in the archive and pull out some Kerry comments?) who pull this crap, it's not acceptable on either side, but 95% of the folks here turn a blind eye when it's Republicans getting slammed....

I don't agree that the left and the right are the same. I do think in our current political climate, there are far more crazy conservatives than crazy liberals. And I think there's quantifiable data that proves that (like my post on email rumors catalogued at Snopes.com).

But when I saw this headline, I expected to see it was from a leader in the Republican party, or from a prominent right-wing speaker or author. That's not the case. Anecdotal stories aren't evidence. And if you go to any number of conspiracy theory websites - especially 9/11 sites - you'll find liberal wackjobs beyond your worst nightmares.

I'm not surprised these people exist and I'm disgusted with them. And I'll continue to argue against moral equivalency that mindlessly intones "both sides do it!" Today, one side is worse. But I don't think it's fair to take these examples and apply a general label of "conservative" to these people. My guess is that 90% of Americans who identify themselves as Republican or conservative would be appalled at this and agree that the Obama daughters are good kids who should be immune from political criticism.

I said if anyone said anything inappropriate about Obama's daughter's I'd say something. Kids should be left out of the equation. That wasn't the case. It was shameful when the Alaskan blogger made fun of Palin's baby Trig. And this just as shameful and those who participate in this behavior should be properly chastised.

    I know, I know. Mindboggling, ain't it?

And yes, that is why they were all up in arms about the Obama family (comments were also made about the first lady, comments of an extremely racist nature which I shan't repeat).

I recall some but I live in Austin, the place where one of them got busted for underage drinking while Daddy was President. There were jokes, of course, and IIRC even shirts that I saw or heard about. Then again, the kid broke the law, so I'd say she deserved at least a LITTLE bit of what she got.

And she did nothing that millions of kids her age at the time haven't done before.

Malia Obama's big offense was... wearing a T-shirt??

Yes no matter the income. It's good to know that lack of intelligence is in both parties. ;)

    But from the original link:

"You might think that this is the same as the lame attacks that Bill O’Reilly levels at commenters on DailyKos and/or Hot Air. There are key differences. The Sun report says that the offensive comments overwhelmingly outnumbered those critical of the vitriol, but the real problem is this:

After attention from other blogs, the thread was suppressed and placed under review, but before long it was returned to the site intact, and attracted a new series of racial slurs when the original complaint email was posted publicly to the site, with the sender’s email address intact.

So, they knew about the comments, put them back up, and apparently made the complainer a target for harassment. Very ugly. Eventually, they took it down again."

If someone referred to Malia as 'ghetto street trash' on LP, it may or may not get redlined. But either way, it's an obnoxious comment by a relatively anonymous author. Anybody can say pretty much anything they like on the internet. But if your site is filled with inane rantings and bile like that, nobody but nutcases are ever going to read it. And the people who are running the site are just as likely to be right wing nutcases themselves, just fanning the flames.

In some ways, I agree with William - you can always go out and scour the net for horrible people saying irresponsible things on either side. The difference is that we've just gone through a tidal shift in our government, so the people squawking the loudest now are different from the ones that that were cranky over the last eight years.
