Thanks Labuda. Yes, it probably does mean they'll be underwater soon, if not already (it's about 4am at home). They had to leave with no warning so didn't get to take anything with them, and I don't think they have backup copies, so fingers crossed big time that the damage isn't too bad.

Bull sharks are swimming down the motorway near my school apparently!

Figaro is it harder being far away right now? Is it harming your enjoyment right now?

Let's hope this is the last tragedy of this type for the Queensland LP brigade.

The street 7 houses down from us went completely under and all we could do was watch helplessly while guys rowed a boat out to their houses to try and salvage any belongings :(
The freeway out front of our house went under as well and is still under water so it's very weird at the moment not hearing the traffic outside, well except for the occasional Black Hawk helicopter and news helicopters that are still doing random patrols.
Thank you very much to everyone who showed concern for our safety, it's been very touching to know you all care :)

This is the Aussie "can do" spirit in action - we pull together and pick each other up and we move on.

People in other states are asking what they can do - what can they send and how can they help? The answer is to donate money. So far, as of this Saturday morning(15/1)I heard that over $54 million has been raised. This might not sound like a lot to Americans but remember we have only just over 20 million people in this country. That would be the equivalent of the US(with around 300 million)raising $810 million in about five days.

We Aussies are hurting right now for our Qld kin but we stand proud at the kind of people we are, what we can do and what we WILL do in the future to bring this beautiful state back to its former glory.

He calmed down though when he realized the worst was over and then it was all just waiting for every thing to start "working" again :)
And then of course it was back to playing Sam Flynn or Billy Hill all day :D

I remember when my highschool (first one before my dad decided to move us to the bad neighborhood) went south to help with the floods. Sand bag piling etc.

I'm pretty sure the good people in Queensland will have this resolved in good time honoring those that were lost of course.

Well the branch Sandra works at is in a shopping centre right beside the Bremer River which was tipped to hit peak flood levels. Fortunately the waters only got as far as the lower car park so, once they subsided and an electrician etc. inspected the infrastructure of the building, they were able to re-open and now we have limited public transportation running again she can go back to work tomorrow :)
