Further on you can visit Mirror lake in the high Uinta Mountains - a pretty nice drive if that's your cup of tea. They used to shoot the TV series "Grizzly Adams" up there. (does anyone even remember that?)

Go south for about 4 hours and you reach the awesome red rock beauty of Arches, Canyonlands, and Dead Horse Point - all national parks.

Antelope Island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake is a little desolate yet has a unique beauty, along with a buffalo herd...

Were you referring to the free admission or how can it be a world-class zoo? :)

You do have to pay for parking, of course, as well as for some attractions within the zoo, but I still think it's reasonable.

I love Bayless' TV show, when I can find it. I appreciate his enthusiasm and how he wants to educate people about Mexican food. His cookbooks have also been really enjoyable.

    >>my daughter goes to college near St Louis, you would alsobe familiar with "the Hill" - some of the best Italian restaurants in one small area in St. Louis, who would have guessed ?<<

Oh, definitely! However, it wasn't until last year that I ate there. Unfortunately it was during the day, and most of the restaurants are only open during the evening.

There are also good restaurants in the Central West End and Soulard.

I've dined at a few different Italian Restaurants on "The Hill" area of St Louis, they were defiantly thee best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. One was Angelo's [but the name changed I think?] and I think one of the others might have been Gianehtti's or something like that? For breakfast I liked Hodges chili parlor downtown :)

I will have to remember that, but with all the great steak houses in Chicago, it's hard for this So Californian to want Mexican food when I could have Mortons instead.

Oh and a plea for any of you Chicago area LPers... when Big Thunder goes to visit your town, he wants to go to Cubs game at Wrigley and then a night at Buddy Guy's Legends ; )

Drive thru Greenville, Hockessin and Pike Creek Valley - I thank the state for setting up the Greenway which has preserved so much natural beauty right next to where we live.

Restaurants - lots of good ones. We like Okura (Japanese), Placio Maya (authentic Mexican, not tex-mex), Sofritos for Italian, Hibachi (tepanyaki) and more. Many times we'll go into Philly (about 30 min. drive) for great eats.

    In the area:

Phillies game at Citizens Park or on off-season or out-of-town dates, a personal tour thru the park and the Hall of Fame & Diamond Club.

With kids: definitely (and in this order), the Franklin Institute, Academy of Science or the Zoo.

With my bargain hunter friends: Cowtown (NJ right over the bridge) on Tuesdays. Great antique and resale shops in northern new castle county and nearby PA.

Of course, it's just a short drive to take advantage of Philly.
