As for the new Courtyard, I know it's not open yet, but I'm hoping that we can stay there over Labor Day. We have a big group so our options are limited since there aren't many suites in the area, but that would be a fantastic location. I'm keeping an eye on it to see how much it will be once they finally start reservations!

But I am already booked and paid for through Alaska travel packages and they do not give that option of choosing that hotel yet
They just keep telling me to check back and see if it is available through them for the dates that I need

I got super excited when I googled this and found their website. Then my excitement died when I put in the dates for our trip in October and they are $260 a night and up plus a valet parking fee of $20 a night, with no self parking available. At that rate, I'll stay at PP. Are you getting cheaper rates?

If they're in that ballpark all the time, I'm pretty sure it will be out of our price range. When we can get a (really nice, modern, and big) room at one of the convention center hotels for less than $150 most nights, it's worth the extra few steps to the parks

It does seem like a high price point to me. I'm sure it'll be nicer than most of those older properties along Harbor, but most people who stay at such places are doing so for convenience AND price, and may not feel a somewhat nicer room is worth $100+ more each night. People willing to splurge would probably be willing to stay in a Disney hotel - more expensive still, but with the undefinable "magic" that makes it worth it to many.

I predict that they'll get what they're asking for initially due to the newness; and then when they find they aren't getting the occupancy rates the nearby properties are, they'll drop their rates some.

For off property, I prefer BWPPI. The beds are comfortable and the walk is a breeze. Sometimes we leave the parks mid-day and the short walk back to the hotel is nice for that. And sometimes we're in the parks All.Day.Long. and the short walk back is great for my very tired feet!

I hope you are right as it does look very nice.

Orbitz has the DLR properties at 20% off with code travelhappy for travel through 2015. So for kicks I put in my October dates and with the discount, I could reserve a standard view room for $232/night. No brainier on which I would choose if I was at that price point.

Ever since the DLR AP program instituted monthly payments and DCA became popular, the hotel prices have been insane. I've paid some pretty steep rates for some pretty low-budget accommodations in the DLR area

That's what I am finding. Last time I had an AP was 3/2012-2/2013 and I never had a problem finding a motel at the crosswalk for less than $100/night mid-week. Remember when HoJo used to have the 50% off rates? Ah. Those were the days. I actually called HoJo yesterday, as my AP rate was only showing up at 10% off, same as a AAA rate and their website says it is 20% for APs. She said they no longer do the 20% rate for APs unless you pay in full and it is non-refundable. Ouch.

Last time I stayed on property was 2009, and it was buy 3 nights, get 2 free at DLH. I really enjoy staying on property with the atmosphere, as the kids do enjoy swimming and I know they'd love the resort pools. But I'm a cheapo and can't justify spending 3-4 times as much as the crosswalk, even though the crosswalk is getting pricey.

Dagobert, you should check Hotwire or Priceline to find a good deal. If you know far in advance and stay during the week days, you can probably get a decent hotel for a low price.

I'm right there with you. Stayed at the PPH once, and then at the DLH once five nights each trip.

PPH was under a thousand and the DLH was probably about $1300. I'm looking back at that thinking those were the days.

I can't justify the costs anymore.

We've been staying at the Hilton for the past several years - booking for about $150/night (and that includes 2 Buffet Brunch Vouchers per night - a $50 value). The ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) runs every 15 - 20 minutes to the area (you can board the Hilton, or the Marriot as they are literally across the street from one another). Also if you have Hilton Reward Points you can upgrade your room to a Disney View, which gives you a great view of the Fireworks, and the parks in general.

Be sure to "visit" the DL Hotels though. There are some great things to see and do, even if you are not staying there. A meal at "Goofy's Kitchen" is always a blast (if you like Character Meals), and the White Water Snacks at the GC makes for a nice escape from the parks for a quick bite. Have a great trip!

I eat a lot of food, and I'm a big fan of breakfast/brunch, but I have a hard time believing that anybody would actually spend $25 on a brunch buffet. That's crazy! I ate at Storyteller's in the GCH in November, and I don't think it was a whole lot more than that, and it included characters and the obligatory Disney upcharge

Even if you don't get a Disney View room, the pool deck has a pretty good view of the fireworks. It's about the same height as the Carsland rockwork so you can't see much into the parks themselves, but it's perfectly positioned to watch the show in the sky
