But I do suspect that that particular "free bible" offer has a few too many hidden strings attached. (Looks like it's King James too. Not the easiest readin', that.) Most church-run thrift stores have free bibles to give out in a variety of styles, colors, translations, and political proclivities, and no salesman will call. YMMV, though, especially in Japan.
Originally Posted By Labuda "Oh now let's don't go getting into a fight about what a "real" bible is." Good point. The original writings that became the Bible are lost to the years, and we have no idea how accurately the writings were translated, or how close to what was taught was to what was written down when the teachings went on paper.

She said "Mormon interpretation" - not an entirely unreasonable statement given that the LDS Bible has within its footnotes the "Joseph Smith Translation." For you non-Mormons, that's the parts of the Bible that Joseph Smith found lacking or incorrect and changed. There are "Mormon Bibles" one can purchase with these changes directly in the text. But the LDS Church's official Bible has relegated these to the footnotes and endnotes. Me? I actually don't find it outlandish at all that someone would want to improve on or change the Bible. I just find it a bit galling that Josh preaches to us about "modern prophets" out of one side of his mouth, then insists Mormons are no different in their Bible than anybody else out of the other.
