All of a sudden she is talking about abortion, and makes no mention of Ayers whatsoever. Whether you think her position on abortion is right or wrong, it is at least a valid issue. I think McCain wanted to get her away from the Ayers stuff fast. McCain wants to win, but I give him credit for not being willing to turn it into a hate-fest to do it.

If you "truly believe" that, you're really just stupid. And I suppose you also believe that the White House had nothing to do with a significant percentage of Americans believing Saddam Hussein was responsible for destroying the World Trade Center, too.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***I think McCain wanted to get her away from the Ayers stuff fast.*** Fast? Funny, she talked about it for several days. If only McCain knew how to work that confangled email, maybe he could've stopped her sooner! After all, it's inconceivable that he would have actually KNOWN about what she was going to talk about. She's just a maverick, after all, she set out on a tangent (of her own invention) and McCain had NOTHING to do with it. More cool aid please. ***McCain wants to win, but I give him credit for not being willing to turn it into a hate-fest to do it.*** Again, if you want to claim that those commercials were NOT the cause of the hate-fest, you are blind.

If you HONESTLY think for a second McCain and Co. didnt know what Palin was going to say, you ARE drinking the cool aid dude . They don't even trust this woman to give interviews or answer reporter questions on the road 90% of the time, do you HONESTLY think they have her go out there and make her own speeches to her hearts desire? C'mon man, you know that's faaar from the truth lol. Palin is probably lucky when she spits, it's not McCains saliva that comes out at this point. She is given a set of talking points, monitored like a hawk and I'm guessing ANYTHING she wants to talk about, especially as controversial as that, is review and approved by the McCain campaign (and I'm guessing this Ayers angle was an all involved committeed decision anyway, which Palin got to agree or disagree to, but no way it was solely her idea on a lark). I'm almost certain they write everything for her to say anyway.

I can't believe people like this are legally allowed to breed.

Had they seen an uptick in the polls as a result of the Ayres stuff, I think they'd still be doing it. And obviously McCain could not possibly be unaware of what Palin is going to talk about on any given day. She was given the traditional "attack dog" role most Veep candidates get, but always (at least in modern times) very closely coordinated with the larger campaign. It's not like she just decided to talk about Ayres (and now abortion) on her own; note the coordination of her Ayres talk with the campaign ads, for instance. And yes, when your campaign starts talking about how "dangerous" a guy who "pals around with terrorists" is, you can hardly be shocked - shocked I say! - when people start seeing that person as a terrorist himself, or at least "friendly with them." It's ugly, and I'm glad it doesn't seem to have worked and they're backing off it.

She reads the speech given to her, no ad libbing. Although since it's essentially the same speech she's been giving since the RNC, she might have large chunks of it memorized. The "Obama pals around with terrorist" stuff wasn't "wingin' it", that was right off the prepared remarks. Probable rehearsed a time or two, to get the folksy nuances just right. Now McCain is trying to shift gears (again) after it was clear that a week of the negative attacks were backfiring. Who did his campaign get their playbook from, Wile E. Coyote? Wouldn't surprise me if he tries to paint a train tunnel behind Obama at the final debate. I'd frisk McCain for anvils, just to be sure.
