She was given the same spiel about classic sizing and the newer style but since Disnyland has very few fitting rooms and Disneystore has none it's been a gamble whether it will fit when she gets it home and then, if it does fit, hope it doesn't shrink the first time she washes it. For some reason I never have a problem, any X large always fits fine but there probably a less of a difference in the cut of men's T's. I am surprized and happy to hear that The Disney Store will honor returns on Disneyland merchandise. We didn't even consider that since Disney sold most of the The Disney Stores to The Children's Place in 2004. I'm wondering if this applies to all Disney Stores or if it's a local policy. Thanks to all for all the info and also for allowing me to vent a little.

This, along the additional experiences people have shared today, make me completely convinced that this is being done on purpose. And I have to once again remind people that at least for the "regular" style T-Shirt ("mens"?), there's no retro style to the cut of the material or anything else. And, they're not just a bit smaller, but one full size smaller. An XXL is exactly the same size as what's sold as an XL elsewhere. <<< Disnyland has very few fitting rooms and Disneystore has none it's been a gamble whether it will fit when she gets it home >>> This is one problem. I'm surprised that someone hasn't suggested "Well if you want it to fit right, try it on before buying it." The problem with this is that certain locations don't have fitting rooms, and the ones that do have nowhere near the capacity that would be needed if everyone buying a T-Shirt had to try it on. Plus, this shouldn't be necessary for a standard item such as a regular T-Shirt, and it's necessary only because of this deliberate scheme to mislabel the shirts as being one size too large. So, why would Disney do this? The reason is obvious: as I mentioned before, the difference between sizes (at least between XXL and XL) is about 5%. So, assuming that people continue to buy their normal size as labeled, there would be a 5% reduction in material and shipping costs. Assuming sales stayed the same, this would be one way to meet an earnings growth target that was unrealistically set (as I believe many are). Now here's what I find so insidious about this: The only cost savings to Disney come from people that are buying the wrong shirt size. Take these hypothetical situations: everyone that buys a shirt tries it on first, or they post a sign that says "Disney sizes are different - buy one bigger than you usually do", or each CM told guests to do this, or everyone that goes to DL somehow reads this thread and knows what to do. What would happen in any of those scenarios? People would buy a shirt labeled one size larger than they normally would and actually receive the correctly-sized shirt. If everyone did this, then there would be no cost savings to Disney at all! The ONLY way Disney gains ANY cost savings is by people buying shirts that are too small for them without realizing that they are doing so. Then they get them home and find that their money has been completely wasted, and in addition to that, they don't get to enjoy their souvenir. Disney is COUNTING on this happening, otherwise there would have been no incentive for them to do this as there would be no cost savings if everyone figured it out and bought the correct size. This is completely different than, say, reducing the portions on a meal by 5% while keeping the price the same. Sure, that's annoying, but you still get 95% of the value you got last year. It's not as if you couldn't eat the meal at all. For Disney to embark on a cost savings plan where the only way they could benefit was for guests to mistakenly buy clothes that don't fit and they can't wear is worthy of the term "insidious," in my opinion. Shame on them.

That's better. luvindisCruiser (and other oncoming riders), your vacation need not be spoiled. The ingenious solution to your anxiety-inducing predicament is buried in jdub's post on the first page of the thread: -- Pick up the t-shirt in both hands -- Hold it out in front of you -- Look at it

Sure I could stand to lose a little weight, but it's a little crazy to go on a diet just to fit into my Mickey shirts. Or is it? I just wish I knew their sizing was off before I made all of my purchases. It's great to know that for future reference I can return disneyshopping purchases to my local Disney Store. I've been in there a lot lately buying disney dollars for our September trip.
