All kidding aside, oc_dean is most likely correct in that once the Christmas season comes around, the Pirates decor will give away to traditional New Orleans Christmas decor like always. Plus I totally dig on Pirates. As long as its not tacky I say the more the merrier!!!!!

Summer `07? If so, what's to stop them from cranking up the ol' pirate machine for one more go-round, and a big splashy premiere to boot? It's interesting to note that there was next to zero cross-promotion for the first movie. Sure, they had the big premiere at the park, but that was about it. No merch, no tie-ins with fast food joints, nothing at the disney stores - they had the biggest hit movie of the 2002 summer movie season and nothing to support it. Now they may be going overboard the other way - clubbing us on the head with marketing. I think I like it the other way better.

To me, this screams of a profound lack of vision or restraint. Even if it doesn't suck out loud, it's still taking away from what made NOS a great place - and I can only speak from my own experience. But to expose my bias: I love the food, music, and architecture of New Orleans. NOS would still be my favorite land if it had no attractions at all.

To answer gadzux question, I think the poster was referring to the early storyline for HM that had the owner of the Mansion a bloodthirsty pirate. The only thing I can think of that remains of this story is the weathervane in the shape of a sailing ship. THis story is no more an official part of the Mansion than the fake made up names for the Hitchhiking Ghosts. However, as teh Mansion was in development long before Walt died, one could suppose that he approved with the Pirates Tie In to the Mansion. However..... Pirate stuff in the attraction is quality. It's thought out and designed to best tell the chosen story. When a shop or restaurant is decorated in a pirate theme, it's hokey, cheap, and meant only to make money. While the real New Orleans has definately has it's Pirate Lore, that doesn't mean that every purveyor is sporting an eye patch and has weathered swords and ships in their decor. If anything I would think a lot of real N.O. business owners, if they really had Pirate stuff, would be showing fine antiques, real chests, swords, fine paintings, not the cheap plastic stuff that will be your centerpiece at one of Disneyland's restaurants. Yes it's probably only going to be up when the films are being promoted, so I'm not too worried. <<It's interesting to note that there was next to zero cross-promotion for the first movie. And they weren't even confident enough in it's quality to merchandise it properly. Then it makes em a mint and they instantly franchise it, shoot too more films and merch the heck out of it. What worries me is how difficult it is to make a good sequel, much less 2 sequels. If they couldn't tell quality the first time around how can they tell now? Wonder if anyone will get sick of Pirates before the third film is out...
