Sorry just not true, what saves our throats is that the religion that made what we know as the Western Word is Christianity. If Christianity was like some other religions the government could not save us from it since the vast majority of the USA has been and still is Christian, and the vast majority could just take over the country and make it a theocracy. Sometimes you need to give credit where credit is due, as hard as it may be to do that.

Sometimes you need to give credit where credit is due, as hard as it may be to do that.> You're wrong, plain and simple. As my earlier example showed, Christianity has itself shown itself at various times in history to be intolerant and willing to slit the throats of unbelievers. Hell, Catholics and Protestants fought for a couple of centuries, slitting each other's throats over differing brands of what is supposed to be at bottom the same religion. Now yes, that was centuries ago, but what changed was the Enlightenment, and those enlightenment ideals being enshrined first in our Constitution, and then in other western countries. The point in your middle paragraph is wrong too. The vast majority of the US may be Christian, but that doesn't mean the vast majority could make it a theocracy. A). The constitution prevents that and to make that happen you'd have to change the constitution, and b). the vast majority of Christians in this country (myself included) don't WANT a theocracy. Some might. But most of us recognize how valuable the separation of church and state is... to both the church(es) AND the state.
