Buried another developmentally disabled person due to covid today. If I hear another person start about "underlying conditions and they would have died of something soon anyway".... I'm going to do the first puking and punching combo in world history.
I hear you. We have been praying for my mother-in-law (who is 97 and has dementia) to die. But we still got her vaccinated. No one should die like that.
This morning, I woke up out of a vivid dream in which a relatively young Lena Horne made an appearance on Jeopardy. Not as a clue image (which happened recently), nor even as a clue video, but as a celebrity contestant. In sepia-toned black-and-white, with everything around her in full color. And it wasn't in the Art Fleming era; it was in the post-Trebek era, even though she's been dead since 2010. It was obviously done technologically (hence the sepia-toned black-and-white Horne in an otherwise full-color world). It was so vivid (and I'm not even a Lena Horne fan) that when I woke up, I felt a compulsion to grab my cell phone, and do a Google search on "Lena Horne Jeopardy," before I was certain it hadn't actually happened.
I have had dreams so vivid that I check to make sure whatever I dreamed did not actually happen. (I am one of those unfortunate souls who has recurring *teeth falling out* dreams. I always put my hand to my mouth to make sure they are still tight.
And now that I think about it, I think my recurring "enrolled in a class that I'd completely forgotten about and never attended" university dream came back to me once, fairly recently.
Oh the school dreams! I graduated from high school early and went straight to college. I did not bother to go back to walk with my class. For the next 40 years or so (I have not had one in a long time) I would dream I was in class and unable to answer questions or be taking a test I could not understand. My graduation always depended on it. Then, as if getting partially awake; I would start asking myself why I was in a high school class when I had already been to college. That would usually end the dream. I always figured I had an incomplete cycle by not participating in graduation. (I also had those naked in class dreams where I thought I could sit a certain way and no one would notice.)
I've had those college dreams about suddenly realizing that it's the end of the semester, and I haven't attended the classes I was supposed to. I wake up feeling like I have to run over to the registrar to make sure everything is correct even though it's going on 30 years since I graduated.
#@%^*#* Covid We have been so careful and have gotten vaccinated and boosted. Then, Rod's mom (who even though she no longer knows what she is doing; is still messing up our lives) fell and broke her ankle. She was taken to our County Hospital. She was actually lost for 5 hours as they tried to find a hospital with room for her. She was on a bed in the hall of the ER for 3 days. Since she has dementia and Rod is the only one who can speak for her; he had to go. There were people everywhere and not all were following protocols. (She finally got a room and is now in a care home for end-of-life care.) That is a whole other story. Monday Rod announced he had a sore throat. Took a home test and it was positive. We have a testing center just down the street so Tuesday he went there for both a rapid and PCR tests. We have yet to have results from either of those. He is exhibiting symptoms of a nasty cold. Then yesterday my nose started to run along with sore throat. I did a home test that was negative but my symptoms match his (and everyone else's) symptoms exactly so I am assuming I have it and am behaving accordingly. My symptoms are more along the lines of a moderate cold. It is so obvious it came from the damned hospital but he really did not have a choice. Our doctor offered absolutely no help except to say to isolate. (Well duh!) They actually told us not to bother getting retested. With all of the false results out there; we were not buying that! So, our son John is staying in our small travel trailer. Jerry is in his room at one end of the house. I am in the big bedroom with my own TV and bathroom. Rod is in the motorhome. (I will not share space with him until I have a for sure positive test.)
Yes, thank you. We are all doing much better today. Our son John had bad cold-like symptoms, Rod's was more severe, mine stayed pretty mild but as I am improving I am realizing how poorly I felt. Especially tired. Our son Jerry either managed to avoid it or is asymptomatic. As AOC put it, "Saying symptoms are mild is misleading since the bar is hospitalization and death." (slightly paraphrased) My husband's tests came back and they were both positive.
I hope you guys get to feeling better soon! That new variant is rather ruthless...it has knocked out a third of my guy's workforce in the past week. Separate bedrooms for us for a while too just to be safe.
I wish I had thought ahead and moved him to the RV when he insisted on spending so much time at a hospital (full of Omicron patients) hallway with probably infected staff running around not always with their masks on right. I am trying hard to not be mad at him for worrying about his mother, but she has no idea he was there, nor does she even know that she cannot get out of bed because her foot is broken. Now she may die and he cannot visit her at all. We want negative tests but just try to find one. I got on Kaiser's website and they said they will *let us know* if and when they become available. We can buy them and make Kaiser pay for it now but nobody has any. We could go down the street but even their rapid test takes 5 days for results. I have no desire to sit in my car for hours when I already do not feel well anyway. We are lucky we do not need one for work and can afford to wait it out if it comes to that. But we have plans with friends next week and no matter what the CDC says; we will not get together with people until we test negative. My son-in-law needs a test for work just because he was exposed but is not sick. His home test was negative but that is not enough for work. He went to the site near them and drove right on home when he saw people lined up outside with absolutely no social distancing and masks under noses. After nearly two years I really see NO excuse for this shortage. They could have been sent to every household ages ago. Okay, done ranting. We are all slowly recovering. John is planning next year's garden and doing some yard work, I am okay with cooking and light cleaning. Rod gets out and walks the property a bit and is back in bed. All of these seem to be normal but I am staying quiet most of the time because I know people who have relapsed badly after doing too much too soon. I am certainly watching too much YouTube and doing too much doom scrolling.
We are having a heckuva time finding the at-home Covid tests. I know they aren't always the most reliable, and you're more likely to get a false positive than a false negative which I guess is a bonus? One of my co-workers came in yesterday sounding AWFUL, and it was like pulling teeth to get her to go home. She has already had Covid once, and is feeling invincible (but definitely not sounding it being all nasally and full of mucous). The last thing I need to do is bring home Covid, and knock Steve out from work when he is already down most of his supervisory staff...let's take down Steve's manager position while we're at it. I'm glad you're taking it slow. I tell my applicants that patience is a virtue for a reason, and patience with one's self is a thousand times more difficult. May I suggest watching the new Ghostbusters movie? I saw it the other day and it was wonderful...hit all of my nostalgia buttons and kleenex was needed. It's not often that I want a movie to be LONGER, but that's how enjoyable it was for me.
Good idea. I watched a1976 Rock Hudson movie yesterday. He played an unethical doctor who grows a beautiful woman. (Amazing what aging actors are willing to do!) Pretty bad but took up some time at least. Still recovering slowly but getting bored. My daughter in Renton called this morning and they all have it. They have a son in college, one in high school and a daughter in middle school. She teaches and he works in a bank. They have been so careful and so lucky for so long but looks like the college man brought it home. My daughter who lives here and her family are less careful and have been exposed but have never had a positive test. Go figger.

Nothing refreshes quite like 5 liters of colon-wash. (Which is to say that a week from next Monday, I'm taking my third one-day vacation to where the sun don't shine. And I don't mean I'm visiting an abandoned salt mine.) BTW, I still have the pictures from my last guided tour of my lower intestine.
I empathize. Though nowadays, they just have me *poop in a box*. So far, I have not had to endure another "guided tour of my lower intestine." Hope everything turns out fine. (Have fun in the farting room.)
