What a thing to have keep you up. But I get it. I will be trying to sleep tonight knowing that we are going whale watching in the morning. Should be good as we saw bunches of them from the shore today. As well as harbor seals and otters.
And last night, I finally got the optical drive module to work. After I'd gone to the trouble of learning that Dell used the Samsung CD-ROM driver, downloading it, extracting it, and sticking it into C:\DOS, I discovered that there was no OAKCDROM.SYS where the CONFIG.SYS was expecting to find it, because unlike everything else, C:\DOS was a fresh installation, rather than a copy of what was on my tower. As soon as I put in the missing Oak driver, changed the LASTDRIVE from I to J, slapped in the optical drive module, and rebooted, the optical drive showed up just fine in DOSSHELL, and I had no trouble at all reading a CD-ROM. I am a complete and utter idiot. But I now have a fully functioning DOSbook.
It's not that big of a deal to me that "Light Cycle Run" at WDW-MK and "Rise of the Resistance" at DL are virtual queue only, because even though it's discriminatory against non-smartphone-users like me, neither of those two attractions hold any appeal to me (I've said it before: I think flying a Recognizer would be a more interesting experience than riding a light cycle). But "Runaway Railway," which uses what is still my favorite out of all the ride systems developed by WDI, and which looks like an interesting experience in general, as virtual queue only, THAT could be a reason for my going a full year without setting foot in DL, even if they do bring back the MSEP. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the mouse I ordered out of Amazon arrived Wednesday, and it turned out to be the wrong mouse: an M190 (cordless USB-only) when I'd ordered an M110 (corded, combination USB/PS-2, so it could be shared between my Chromebook and my new DOSbook). I explained the problem in detail when filing the return. Hopefully the replacement will actually be an M110.
Well, it doesn't sound so to me. Of course I have 2 middle aged sons who handle my computer woes. I do understand some of the language due to the CS11 course I took at the local community college a number of years ago. Ditto that! Looks like we will be doing Runaway Railway due to our traveling companion being disabled and in possession of a "smart" phone. (I don't even know how disabled people are able to do Disneyland without one.) Double discrimination. Trip to the Monterey Peninsula was extremely successful. All of our favorite foods that we had not enjoyed in 13 years along with perfect weather. So nice after all those storms. Worst problem was our trip coinciding with "free local week" at the aquarium. Never seen it so crowded!!
Whale watching was aboard a fishing boat (guy picking up cash during slow season) with only about 15 people. Really personal. Skipper was awesome. Also saw sea lions and a mama otter with baby on her chest. First time I have seen that in the wild.
Looking forward to our trip to Disneyland that is finally just around the corner. We have hit a few snags but it looks like all systems are go, all lights are green. This has by far been my longest break from the Parks. January 2019.
So have you had a chance to do the West Coast "Runaway Railway"? Is it the same "Rolling Theatre" ride system that the East Coast version inherited from the late lamented GMR?

We have not been able to get a spot and it has been down most of the time anyway. Did Web Slingers at DCA and found it to be fun. We covered so much ground Sunday everything is second and third times. At least the weather has not been as bad as forecast. Being President's Week; the crowds have been pretty heavy. Been going in the AM leaving to go back around 7 or 8. Last night was quiet and lovely biting wind notwithstanding.
It rained so much and so hard Friday that we were able to do RoftheR twice in a row. Then we decided to check on Runaway Train. No virtual queue, we just walked in. Don't know about WDW but this one is a "Rolling Theater". The "anime" characters are off-putting to me.
We left Anaheim at 11AM Saturday. We drove for seven hours and ended up staying overnight in Camarillo! Left there this AM and are just now finally on I5 near Fresno. All travelers having to take 101 made for some nasty traffic. We did enjoy Disneyland but this has been the road trip from Hell. Tried to outrun a snow storm but it got so bad so fast we turned around. Good thing too. Many people ended up stuck.
The WDW version, so far as I'm aware, reused everything it could from GMR. And that, in turn, is just a smaller version of WoE/Ellen. (Never did see any of the pre-Ellen versions of that.)
Holy Cow!! How much water can the ground hold?!!? No more here as we are pumping more off the property than we use in a year. And it just keeps coming. To think that a few months ago we were watering plants with grey water and fretting that the well might run dry! At least we are not near streams or rivers so flash flooding is not a big threat. Just mud and a flooded barn.
Since desserts and sweet and/or starchy snacks are something I give up for Lent, I celebrated at Marie Callender's . . . with a chicken pie.
