And I know SPP supports the police. But after that crickets. Look as a society we have to stop putting criminals(white, black, Hispanic, etc) over those of police officers or innocent victims killed by the criminals or in extremely rare rare rare cases a bad police officer or two

You keep assuming things about people and responding to things no one said (like cops do a bad job or it's not a problem when they are killed). You do this because you are incapable of thinking more than an inch deep. Your obscenely uncomplicated worldview is populated only with good guys and bad guys and anytime anyone on here bothers to disagree with you or point out things might be slightly more complex (say, like that someone may have committed a crime and that doesn't mean they should've been the victim of deadly force, both of those things can be true), you freak out with the old DAR black and white outrage and just demonize everyone by assuming good human beings don't give a rats ass about murdered police officers and any other atrocity when we don't swallow your teensy, narrow perspective on life. You do this because it's easier for you to assume the worst about other people than have your preconceived ideas challenged. So then you turn around and ask questions and make statements that make Donny look like a savant. Many of us have repeatedly said we think most cops are good people who have tough jobs. Your either ignorance of those statements or your refusal to acknowledge them because you are too simple to understand nuance is not our problem. So by all means, keep banging away with paper thin statements about how it's open season on cops and how no one cares all you like. Just know that, for the umpteenth time, you are responding to a figment of your imagination and not to anything anyone here has actually said or believes.

He had already lied to his superiors, who almost certainly would have just taken his word, end of story. Sometimes even with video, there's an indictment but no trial, if the DA acts as de facto defense attorney (as on Staten Island.) <But I also warned this would be open season on the police and it was basically met with a shrug.> Don't confuse what's happened lately with "open season" - except for the NY case where the guy basically targeted cops with no other reason, the others were killed in the line of duty, i.e. by people they were trying to bring in who shot them to avoid arrest. And don't confuse a lack of direct response on any particular point as a shrug. Except for a possibly drunk barboy, no one here has shown a shred of sympathy for killing cops.

Never improved the situation and often made it worse. I'll discuss things with skinnerbox, even though I usually consider her viewpoint pretty extreme, because she is both intelligent and rational. Big difference.

Big difference.>> Thanks, RT. And ditto for you as well. You're intelligent and rational and I enjoy our discussions, even when we occupy polar opposites of the debate and I get a bit too, uh, "enthusiastic." I also wholeheartedly agree with ecdc and Debob and RT about which posters you engage and which posters you do not. And lately, DAR has slipped back into his typical rhetoric and accusatory stances inferring context and messaging from others that simply isn't there. He really needs to step outside of his own head and pay attention to this crap. He's like a dog with a bone who won't let go, long after the marrow has been sucked dry.
Originally Posted By skinnerbox <<I just don't like seeing cops bad mouthed in the media when most don't deserve it. >> The only cops who get "badmouthed" in the media are INDIVIDUAL COPS who have disciplinary records and/or were caught red handed engaged in ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. The "badmouthing" has also been directed at SPECIFIC POLICE DEPARTMENTS who have LONG STANDING HISTORIES of hiring and retaining DIRTY COPS. This is the important distinction you are failing to grasp, DAR. The "badmouthing" is either targeting INDIVIDUAL DIRTY COPS and/or its targeting police departments who allow INDIVIDUAL DIRTY COPS to serve on their force. You are making broad sweeping generalizations with your comments that do not apply here or in most of the media outlets. Let it go already.

Ever since I started transitioning, every single cop I've encountered has been nothing but nice to me. I've had to call them to my house a couple times -- neighborhood issues, you know -- and they were so respectful and helpful. And last winter, when it was SO cold and snowy, I was driving home from work and my car died on the expressway. A few minutes later, a cop pulled up to me and asked me if I was okay. I told him, yeah, I was just waiting for Triple-A. He pulled up and parked in front of me, came back and said, 'Hey, come up and sit with me and stay warm while you wait.' So we were there in his car for an hour and a half, talking the whole time. He was so kind. I just hate that these few bad cops are making it harder for all the good ones! Police just don't deserve this rap!" Wow. I was so heartened by her comments! I mean, all my experiences with cops have been really postitive, too [and I think I'm probably obviously gay to most people]. But I was so happily surprised that an obvious transsexual would have such a positive point of view on her experience with cops. THANK YOU, police officers! She's right. Most of you are amazing! And, to my LGBTQ friends... If you're fearing the po-po don't like you because of who you are, you might want to feel a little less pre-judgemental and a little more relaxed.>>
