If all they're doing is putting in a new loading system, why the f do they have to have it closed for most of this year? Are they fixing up the AAs? Or doing something completely unthinkable?

Yea... attractions that very few ever rode. It is always fun watching DL folks over-react to absolutely everything. Now WDW folks might have a legitimate complaint with 75% of the Studios being shut down, but even there I don't really care. I look forward to what is coming without spending all my time pissing and moaning about the present.

Yes. I guess that is the primary difference between DL folks and WDW folks. WDW folks are used to it. Both the Studios and Animal Kingdom opened as half-day parks at best but still charged the same admission as the MK and Epcot. And no one cared that much, because if they didn't fill the entire day at the Studios they would just hop to another park.

Also, newer information shows that it's not going down for much of 2016, but be back sometimes after April 3rd.

Actually no. Over Christmas Break 2015, For a one day pass, MK was $105 adult/$99 child, the other 3 parks were $99/$91. Park hopper was $155/$149.

This is only the SECOND year when there has been a higher charge for the MK. When both the Studios and Animal Kingdom opened the prices were the same, and continued that way for years afterward.

WDW folks don't care about the show?

I'd be surprised if WDW sells many one-day, one-park tickets. Even when they do, I'm sure the majority of those get used at the MK and Epcot, and not at the Studios or DAK.

In addition to park hopping, there is so much more to WDW than the parks that a half-day park simply left time for other experiences. When MGM opened, it coincided with the opening of Typhoon Lagoon and Pleasure Island. Disney knew that none of those were full-day experiences, but hoped that guests could combine some of them into a single day to fill up their itinerary

Obviously the non-park offerings have changed through the years, but I contend that they're what really sets WDW apart from DLR. At DLR, folks rush into cram in as many rides as possible in a day or two and then go home; at WDW, people stroll through the parks and take a much more holistic view to their overall vacations

As it stands now, the Studios park is pretty terrible; even Epcot is struggling at the moment, with both Maelstrom/Frozen and Soarin' closed for refurbishment (I'm glad I won't be there when spring break crowds hit!) and a very stale overall attraction line-up. DAK seems to be on a positive trajectory, but in general, people visit the WDW parks for more than just the attractions. Throughout the 4 WDW parks, there are about the same number of attractions as DLR's 2 parks, yet the average guest is able to spend significantly more time taking it all in

The only one that seemed to me to have significant ridership was the Twain. And even there, I doubt daily ridership comes anywhere near the "top" DL attractions.

Of course WDW doesn't have an equivalent to the Columbia. The only boats operating on the river are the Liberty Belle and the raft to Tom Sawyer Island. Keel boats and canoes stopped operating long ago.

Much like the sad state of the Studios park, a lot of WDW's problems have come from slowly chipping away at things until there's barely anything left. I don't think it will happen in DL (at least, not as part of this project), but it's a great tale of caution regardless
