I'm sure you could have become a lawyer. But you didn't. So I can certainly understand SPP's annoyance at you insisting you know the law (or this particular case) as well as he does when he clearly sees it differently with far more education and background in the law than you have. I suspect you would be equally frustrated (and rightly so) if I making comments about engineering that you found were completely incorrect, but I stuck to my guns no matter what and then defended myself by saying "Well, I could've been an engineer..."

Let's face it, for almost every lawyer willing to claim one thing, there's a lawyer willing to go before a judge and argue against it.
